Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

I plan on burning an effigy of you, asshat. If that's not the answer you are looking for, then I don't apologize.

On the nose. Paraphrasing an exchange between Laurel and Hardy (who were street musicians) and an annoyed lady: "How much do you boys made on a street corner? About 50 cents ma'am. Here's a dollar, go two blocks away."

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

I suppose that none of us envisioned Jim Montgomery leading DU into the NCHC transition. I hope this is a good hire for the program.

Obviously bringing in a goalie will be a priority for him. With Brittain having previously shown the ability to carry the load, maybe a top end goalie isn't a necessity right now. Yet, Sam does have an injury history.

I have to wonder, though, about how he feels about being handed a staff. Can Montgomery work well with Miller, Lassonde and Tenzer? Would he prefer his own guys? Does he defer to the current players in choosing captains? Or combine their thoughts with the assistants he was handed?

No matter what, next season will be an interesting one...for a variety of reasons...

I'm curious if he is actually being handed a staff and didn't ask for the staff to remain? The odds of keeping some players and recruits is definitely higher if a couple guys are still around. Let his assistants move up in Dubuque and move one or both of them over in a year if things don't work out with the current staff. Not necessarily a bad idea to keep a couple guys on.

As a UND fan living in Colorado, I'm cautiously optimistic for DU. I've grown to really dislike CC more now that I live in the Springs but the dislike for Denver has dropped a bit especially now Gwoz is gone. Regardless, I'm excited for the start of the NCHC and to see how everything plays out with so many strong teams.

I'm actually hoping GG ends up in Maine as he has a great opportunity to resurrect a program that relates well to UND.

Quite. I have no idea what the expectations, or even the reasonable hopes, will be next year. Will winning the NCHC be a reasonable hope? Home ice advantage in the first round? Continuing the run of NCAA tourney appearances? Just finishing with a winning record? Avoiding the basement?

I feel like as long as we have Brittain, we should be able to avoid the basement, and it's pretty hard to accept that home ice in the first round isn't reasonable. I guess we'll just have to see how the season starts again, just like this year.

I honestly have no idea what to expect. Though I do agree that Big Sam will redeem himself and steal some games. His DU career got a bit derailed with the injury and Olkinuora seizing the moment, but he (as of now) will be the key to which direction the team heads next season.

What's with the anger, you guys are losing a bunch of good players and am curious as to what your expectations are for next year. I asked Minnie and UND fans the exact same question and they gave me honest answers. If it makes you feel any better, I'm not so sure BC has enough returning talent to compete for much hardware.

Personally I think it isn't a bad idea to keep staff intact, for reasons you mentioned and some others. I guess that I just hope that everyone can get on the same page and work well together, for the good of the program.

I'll be interested just to see whether Maine contacts Gwoz. Strong rumors that there's been an inside coup @ Orono. We'll see if there's actually a national search.

As others have mentioned, its hard to see Maine opening the wallet wide enough to entice him.

on the other hand, if Gwoz is serious about still wanting to coach . . . he's not a young guy, and I don't know what the other options are. Truly primo jobs (B.C., Michigan, Minny, NoDak) don't exactly open up very often, and there'll be stiff competition (to put it mildly) from folks with school ties. Part of me thinks, "What the heck? Why not Maine?"

Appert on contract extension:
"The decision to stay wasn't that hard," Appert said. "I have a tremendous amount of respect for what our university stands for, and what our values are, and in the leadership of [RPI president] Dr. [Shirley] Jackson and [athletic director] Jim Knowlton"
http://www.dailygazette.com/weblogs...ppert-staying-at-rpi-gets-contract-extension/

"tremenndous respect for the President and AD"...hmmmm. Wouldn't that be nice.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Welcome aboard! You will be expected on the "Score Thread " next season. Good way to make friends on the bandwagon--Old Pio prefers Crown Royal, Dmann opts for vodka and i like chardonnay:D Sure other selections will be forthcoming.
I'm a Margarita! guy, but I haven't been hanging out in that bar. On the other hand, with what's been going on at my watering hole......

Welcome aboard!

There's still a chance for the Maine athletic department to convince me that they really do have their act together. We'll see if they throw everything they can scrape together to pursue Gwoz. If that's been Maine's plan all along, I'll have some crow to eat, and I'll have to keep one eye on Orono

I doubt it, but I've been wrong before.

Either way, I'll be rooting for Montgomery and DU. Put me down for scotch. Neat.

Dude, the fact that you asked the question shows that it wasn't an honest one. I chose to ignore it rather than give an irritated answer, but if you had read the last 2 or 3 pages of the thread, you would have had the answer to your question. So, are you lazy, or are you a troll, because those seem to be the only options.

Coach, we welcome you to Denver and wish you many productive seasons. We will do anything we can to assist you. We've got high standards here, both on the ice and in the class room. As you may have noticed on your tour of Magness, we've also got room for more banners. Feel free to decorate the place as you see fit.

Quite.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

You guys better start watching what you say here now. The first year that Seth Appert was RPI's coach I was at the HFH for a couple of games. One of the RPI players' father who posted here also introduced me to SA and then to Monty. The first thing that Monty said (perhaps the only thing, it was a long time ago) was that I post on USCHO a lot. At least back then he read this tripe. :D

As a guy who bleeds blue, I'm unhappy about not getting Jim (massive understatement), and I'm in a pretty grumpy mood. But your post really cracked me up. Thanks, I needed that.
