All Things Denver XXXIII

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

If I remember correctly, there was a collision in the Sioux end, bench side between Zucker, a Sioux player, and another Denver player that resulted in Zucker having to leave to ice. I think that the other DU player rolled over the top of Zucker, and something got messed up.

What made it tough to analyze was they didn't replay it as much as they should, because it wasn't immediately apparant he'd been hurt. To my old eyes it looked like he may have cought the blade of a stick on his elbow or upper arm. And I took it a little positively that he was going to the hospital for "tests." He is an extraordinarily tough kid and if there's any way he can play this weekend, he will. Talk about "high character" guys.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Good luck in Grenn Bay. It would be nice for UND and DU to meet again when both teams are relatively fresh. Hope Zucker will be playing.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

ASAAG had an interesting post in the regional thread. I assume everyone's seen it, but DU has played and is undefeated against all of the other regular season conference champions except for Ferris, which we haven't played yet. We can complete the superfecta +1 on Friday.

Who do Lalonde (former Ferris assistant with hockey team and his wife was former head coach of womens soccer team) and Appert (alum) root for against Ferris? I hope to see them in Green Bay with DU jerseys on

This just in, (file under DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN) per today's (Sun March 18) Sports section of the esteemed Chicago Tribune, page 13, near the bottom:

WCHA CHAMPIONSHIP

SATURDAY: Denver 4, North Dakota 0

I must have been watching the wrong channel...

A cherished tradition. Where's H.V. Kaltenborn when you really need him?

Jarrod Mermis' brother and DU recruit, Dakota, plays for Green Bay in the USHL. He better be wearing a DU jersey.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Uff da. Had to Google that. Good one.

He played himself in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," providing breathless commentary about the filibuster from outside the Senate chamber. What a stirring example of democracy in action it was, blah, blah, blah. Later, when the "Dewey votes" he kept projecting never materialized on election night, Harry Truman subsequently did a spot on imitation of him, to the delight of everyone in the room. As Jackie Gleason used to say: "How sweet it is."

Dominic nice job on the video. Thanks for posting it. I know that this is very exciting for the FSU program and their fans.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

FSU lost only one game in January and February combined. As DG said over at LGDU DU can't look past these guys. Preparation is key with the short turn around.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Any news on Zucker?? I see Barry Melrose is pretending to know who he is....

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

I like the bracket we are in and hopefully everyone is healthy. DU doesn't have to face BC, BU, Maine, Minny, UMD or UND until the championship game. Given that they need to dig deep and play hard this weekend to get to the Frozen Four. Ferris has had a very good season and DU will have their hands full but the way DU has been playing I think they can beat anyone with some well needed rest this week. The magic number is 4. Put together a 4-game winning streak and DU has #8.

We need Puck Swami's "Know you opponent". Have we ever played these guys?

We also need: Zucker, Bennett, Phillips, Didier and Makowski

Great question. The answer is "one time."

We lost to them on the consolation game of the 2005-06 Denver Cup and it help cost us an NCAA bid.

Ferris State struggled at the very end of the season, losing 3 of their last 4, but prior to that, they were on a 15 game unbeaten streak (11-0-4) in college hockey's best conference this season. I think it is a pretty even matchup, and could really go either way. Ultimately, I think it depends on who is healthy for Denver because if they have the lineup that they had against North Dakota on Saturday, I think they bow out quickly. If they can get healthy and have those people who are injured produce...well, Denver could have a nice little March/April to add to their Trophy collection.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Chris Peters ranked the regional games in terms of watchability and chance of an upset.
DU is the underdog as we have the lower seeding.

4. Ferris State vs. Denver — Ferris State has zero NHL draft picks. Denver has 10. That said, Ferris State had a dream season, which was temporarily derailed in a loss to Bowling Green in the CCHA playoffs. DU has been inconsistent this season, looking great some nights and average others. It all depends on which DU team shows up. Ferris is the higher seed, but that’s only because the computers say so. This should be a good battle. Chance of Upset: 80%
