All Things Denver, XXX1X

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

We go with Miami--still a chance for South Bend.
We fly wherever
Agreed. Figure we could get Harvard, Gophers or BC in the first round depending on how they shuffle the deck. If we do go with the Redhawks (and I think we will) I hope they get Yale and not PC.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Wow, did anyone actually see this game today? Were we that good, or was North Dakota that bad? College game perplexes me, how we go from losing to Miami 6-3 one day, to beating North Dakota 5-1 the next while resting 2 of our star players. Hoping that Jaillet and the D were stellar. Nice to see a relatively new name on the scoresheet, too. Here is the Post's take on it:

I saw the game streaming on NCHCtv. The Pios looked very good; hungry, disciplined and strong. All the defensive breakdowns shown against Miami were corrected. Jaillet was solid. They played the style Monty has been teaching all along, and when they do, they can beat anyone. Who would have expected a sweep of Duluth, and a thrashihg of UND? They should feel pretty good going into the Regionals. It looks like they will be in the same Regional as Miami, and assuming they get by Harvard, it's likely they'll have to beat the Redhawks to get to the FF. This time I think they have a great chance. They know what they did wrong the last time, and seem to be very good at correcting mistakes.

Despite Hakstol's disclaimers about the loss ("don't overanalyze this game"), two losses in a row can't be a great confidence builder. Especially against a DU team that sat out three of their best players. And of course, in typical Hakstol fashion, he gave no credit at all to DU. He truly lived up to his Haks-tool identity. He can spin it however he wants, but I don't see a NC for the mascot-less UNDs this year.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Buccigross and ESPN tweeted Miami in Providence.

Under 30 minutes until selection show on ESPNU.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Ehhh, I guess it's good enough. People are saying Miami should be p****ed, so it could be worse. We could be Miami. My 5 second analysis of BC is that they have a very similar record to us, and they are in the bottom half of the Hockey East, goals-scored-wise. So maybe not your usual fear-inducing and high flying BC team. I like the prospect of possibly playing Miami again. The ink is still drying on our scouting report on Miami, and I bet our D learned a LOT of lessons in that 6-3 debacle. Bracket seems good enough...bring it on...if you're truly a Frozen Four team, it's not your place to be worried about the teams in your regional. Should be a great game against BC, can't wait!

Good job by Montgomery in getting us here, let's see if he can build on his resume. It's been far too long since DU's last Frozen Four appearance.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

If any of you guys are making the trip to Providence, remember to check Boston and Hartford for flights in addition to Providence...Both are about an hour drive from PVD.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Denver versus Boston College....in a first round game...in the Northeast Regional. Hmmm, sounds to me like this was scheduled by that noted hockey analyst Dave Zhavu.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Denver and BC split a series in Magness Arena on Homecoming Weekend last Fall. Evan Cowley started both games for Denver and stopped 47 of 50 BC shots in the series. BC won Friday's game 2-1. DU won Saturday's game 2-1 in OT with Danton Heinen scoring both goals for the Pioneers.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Bracket of death
Miami/Providence
DU/BC
I don't think it's that bad. BC is beatable and we've gotten a lot better since that homecoming series against them earlier in the season. Miami is really going to struggle against Providence without Coleman who is suspended for the game. I'm just happy we don't have to play a potential road game against BU or UND in the regionals.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Bump!! Does anyone know where I can find the "printable bracket" ? the last several years I have printed one out from this site, really straight forward bracket perfect for office pools! I can't find it anywhere!!

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Hey do you guys have an official watch party set up at a bar or something? The RIT alum chapter of Denver is putting something together, but we don't want to step on your toes.

Agree. We could be missing two 20-goal scorers vs. the best goaltender in the nation, so if we find a way past Providence, I think we have a good shot. We know DU, you guys know us and it's not a great BC team. Noah Hannifin is fantastic but Demko, I believe, is average in net and they don't have the top end forwards they typically have. But, it's BC, it's the tournament, it's Jerry York. I think DU will win if LaLeggia is healthy and the DDT line keeps wreaking havoc. An all-NCHC final is certainly possible, but Miami will have to put forth quite an effort to get there.
