Well, well, well. Oh, the things you can learn when you do a little investigative snooping.

I spent a little time on the Ricthie Center calendar earlier today. I wanted to see if a few events had been scheduled for later this year and--operating merely on a longshot whim--looked to see if any hockey dates for the 2015-2016 schedule had been reserved. Not only have all home dates been reserved, but names of opponents have been put in place as well. Bear in mind the NCHC hasn't announced its schedule for next season, but I have a gut feeling the folks at the Ricthie Center are doing more than taking wild guesses by scheduling these dates. Here's what I found in terms of dates and opponents. Again, this data may not be "official" as far as the NCHC is concerned, but it's more than a little interesting. Since the Ritchie Center calendar only lists data for events occurring within its many venues no data is posted concerning dates and opponents for road hockey games in the 2015-2016 season. The specific dates for the home CC games were unclear, but one seems to be in early November with the other in mid-February.

October 10 Air Force
October 11 Calgary
October 16 Michigan State
October 17 Michigan State
December 11 Saint Cloud

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

The National Collegiate Hockey Conference held its annual Awards Celebration this evening, with three members of the University of Denver Pioneers taking home major individual awards. Fresh off of being named a Top Ten Finalist for this year's Hobey Baker Award earlier today, senior defenseman Joey LaLeggia (Burnaby, British Columbia) was named the NCHC's Player of the Year, Defenseman of the Year and Offensive Defenseman of the Year. Freshman forward Danton Heinen (Langley, British Columbia) took home Rookie of the Year honors while his linemate Trevor Moore (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) was named the conference's Forward of the Year.

Congrats to Leggs, Danton and Trevor!!!!!!!

Holy ****!!! Is anyone else seeing parallels with the 2004 championship team? And to a certain degree the 2005 team?

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Holy ****!!! Is anyone else seeing parallels with the 2004 championship team? And to a certain degree the 2005 team?

No, I am not seeing parallels. The 2003-2004 team had Adam Berkhoel in goal. I see neither Cowley nor Jaillet this year being as good as Berkhoel was in the 2003-2004 season. Berkhoel had seven shutouts that season while this year's tandem has four.

The 2004-2005 team had freshman Peter Mannino in goal. Again, I see neither of this year's goalies playing as well as Mannino did then. Mannino had five shutouts as compared to the current tandem having four. A freshman goalie helping his team win an NCAA title is a remarkable achievement.

The 2003-2004 team had 8 players score 10 or more goals. The 2004-2005 team had 8 players score 10 or more goals. This year's team has 6 players who have scored 10 or more goals.

Fifteen players on the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 teams scored 10 or more points. On the current team eleven players have scored 10 or more points. There's less scoring depth on this team than the earlier squads.

The 2004-2005 team had 5 players score more than 40 points with one--Gabe Gauthier--scoring 57. The current team has two players--Heinen and Moore--who have scored 40 or more points. LaLeggia may make it three players, but there will not be five players hitting the 40 point plateau. Heinen needs a robust thirteen additional playoff points merely to tie Gauthier's scoring toal from 2004-2005. I hope Heinen does it, but I'm not anticipating he will.

I think the current team has played and is playing well. Apart from the first period in each of last weekend's series against Duluth, I thought the Pioneers played in impressive fashion. In the hypothetical exercise of comparing apples and oranges--that is the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 teams with the current team--I think both the earlier teams are superior to the current squad. Nevertheless, I feel the current team is in a strong position to do well in the NCHC event this weekend and the NCAA event beginning next week.

It's a golden opportunity for Denver and the NCHC to get some big exposure. Given CC's status, I'd rather see North Dakota play DU for it. They would draw many more fans, plus those same people would buy tickets for Detroit-Colorado too. But hey - what's this about the Spartans coming in??? Oh Hail Yeah...... my wife's family is all U of M and MSU...I've been waiting since 2001 to get a crack at either of those teams at Magness. COME ON SPARTY, come to Colorado for a mile high butt kicking!!!! PLEEEEASSSSE!!!!

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Predicted team wearing shade of red would win--just wrong shade of red.:o
Seriously,,even matched teams--knew it would be a good game--just wrong result.:(

Oh boy,☻we get to play the sioux tomorrow.

After tonight's game, I have no trust in Cowley. Going to have to go with the Freshman Jaillet in the NCAA tournament.
