All Things Denver, XXVIII

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

I would expect Murray and Brittain to split the goaltending during that first weekend against UVM. I would also expect a rotation to stay in place until one or the other seizes the starting job. If both play well Gwoz could stick with a rotation all year long as he has done in the past.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

"I love Monty but SA is the guy bringing the talent. Small anecdote. troyboy and I were at the Recovery Room watching Game 5 of the Stanley Cup. We're sitting at our table and who is walking over but our great coach. Seth being Seth was awesome, made us feel like a million bucks and said he was there to meet Matt Carle's parents who were staying at the hotel and watching the game . I assumed that they were staying there on their way to Philly for game 6. Well anyway, we sent adult beverages to the table, etc. chatted with SA a little during the game. What's the lesson , an NHLer, former HB winner parents thought enough of our great coach to watch his son play in a SC game with him in freaking Troy, NY. This is no slight on Monty but SA is the man when it comes to recruiting. Also, from reading comments from the lovely Babo, SA has quite a way with the ladies (moms) I very rarely get snarky on the board but let's knock the sh** off about Monty being the brains behind the operation because he was not and that's not what our dear colleague RC was saying in WaP. Thanks for the soapbox."

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

The DU basketball team hit the wall against Sevilla. :(

No surprise there. Seville is one of the top 4 pro clubs in all of Spain, and DU is a top 125 team in the NCAA. Only the top 40 or so NCAA teams would have a shot against Seville.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Sort of surprised nobody on the team speaks Spanish. Does DU require a foreign language to graduate?

Probably all taking Russian, Mandarin or Arabic....:)

DU Undergraduate Language Requirements:

1-3 courses (4-12 sequential credits)

"The faculty of the University of Denver believe that studying culture through langauge at the university level is crucial in our globalized world, and courses in this area reflect that belief. Students usually must complete three quarters of study in a language at the first-year level. If a student shows exceptional skill and places higher than first-year in a proficiency exam, that student needs top complete a one-quarter course (4 credits) in the language above the first-year level (or that student may choose to start a new language and complete the first=-year sequence in that language.) In these courses, students will learn linguistic skills in a langauge other than English in the setting of an internationalizing university that encourages multi-skill language learning. Students taking such courses also will be studying a different expression of culture through language, thereby learning both about a new culture and about themselves and their personal and social and cultural backgrounds. Students will learn to appreciate human diversity as it is expressed linguistically and transculturally in modern society.

Students in the following degree programs are exempt from the Language requirement:
BSEE, BSME, BSCpE, and BFA."

Thx Swami. Can understand the exemption for the engineers, but not the BFA. So many of the arts have such a wide European base. Seems odd.

BTW Sonia Sotomayor, the newest Supreme Court Justice, was recently at DU.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

BYU has gone indy in football and has sent its other sports to the WCC. This could open the door for the Pioneers to also join the WCC and leave the Sun Belt, as BYU will likely need a travel partner and the WCC won't want to stay at 9 teams.

We are likely up against U of Seattle (new to DI) and U of Pacific for the #10 WCC spot. We have better academics, more money, better facilities, better TV market and expand the footprint more than Seattle or Pacific, but they have better WCC geography than we do, as they are already in the footprint.

Fingers are crossed...

Seattle University has been added as an affiliate member in Women's golf. Hope that is not a harbinger for Seattle to become a full member instead of DU.

Seattle's problem is they are new to D-I, have not so great facilities, lesser academics and less money than DU.
