How about those Blackhawks!! I would love to see a 7 game series, we'll see. Once they get to Philly, maybe the series will get even. I just love hearing Carle's name and watching him out there. He is so skilled and stays out of all the goon stuff that was going on last night. He totally belongs in the NHL like we all knew when he was at DU!!

Go Matt Carle!!!!

Sorry,but I love the rough stuff. Fricking league is sooo soft now, guys chirping each other because they know nothing is gonna happen. So many "tough" guys running around because they don't have to be accountable. Zebras going velcroman over any players that look at each other cross-eyed. Just a rant from your favorite knuckle dragging neanderthal. That is all.

Bagman, Sather is celebrating his 10th anniversary with the Rangers and no championships or cups. The Daily News looks back on his 10 years at the helm.

DU incoming goaltender Sam Brittain will be on the Pipeline radio show tonight (Tuesday) at 8 PM MT. Will be interesting to hear his stories about the NHL combine and coming to DU this Fall.

If you miss the interview, I'll post a link to the interview on the Blog tomorrow.

Some Mock Drafts have Beau Bennett or Jason Zucker going late in the first round. I haven't found any that predict that both would be selected in the first round.

Fanhouse released their Mock Draft today and Bennett was projected to go 30th.

I am kind of hoping both Zucker and Bennett go in the second round. Not becuase they aren't first round talents -- First rounders, of course, are fun for bragging rights, and recruiting exposure to the hockey world, but there is way more NHL pressure on first round picks to sign early than there is on second round picks.

A second round pick can develop without the extra pressure, and might be around longer at DU to actually help our team instead of helping someone else's team...

Here are the results from the draft combine:

Wiercioch = 2nd rounder = 2 years at DU

Colborne = 1st rounder = 2 years at DU

Other first and second rounders from DU

Bruce Affleck, (Second Round, 1974) 21st overall - 2 years at DU
Craig Redmond (First Round, 1984) 6th overall = 1 year at DU
Matt Pettinger (Second Round, 2000) 43rd overall - 1.5 years at DU
Matt Carle (Second Round, 2003) 47th overall - 3 Years at DU
Geoff Paukovich (Second round, 2004) 57th overall - 3 years at DU
Paul Stastny (Second round, 2005) 44th overall - 2 years at DU
Tj Fast (Second round, 2005) 60th overall - 1.5 years at DU
Kieth Seabrook (Second round, 2006) 56th overall - 1 year at DU

First Rounders (2) - Average 1.5 years at DU
Second Rounders (8) - Average 1.75 years at DU

Clearly, we get an extra few weeks out of those second rounders....:cool:

If an NHL team comes along and says, "We see you on the NHL Roster at some point next season." The player will disappear from DU faster than CC disappears in the playoffs.

The more high draft picks that come to DU the higher the probability of NHL success. NHL success equals more talented recruits in the future.

Well, you might as well go here too to finish it off. Read or watch them all.

I always think of Maggie and Koroll when I think of the Blackhawks, but we shouldn't forget Jim Wiste, Wayne Smith, Lynn Powis and Rich Preston. Add Rob Palmer. (Thanks Bagman)There may be others, but these names were familiar.

I've posted before the story that Wiste told me of going into the hotel room he shared with Bobby Hull, to find that Bobby was, uh, busy with a lady fan. Bobby's response to the intrusion? "Come on in, kid" Think about Cliff Koroll, he had about a ten year NHL career with the Hawks, scored a couple of hundred goals, is one of the Blackhawks all time career scorers--and never made all WCHA, let alone all American. Cliff was offered a tryout by the Denver Bears (AAA baseball) and after he'd lost several balls over the left field wall, they offered him a contract on the spot. After the '68 nc game, I recall Cliff taking a little "nap" in the bathtub of the room he shared with Maggie.

I had forgotten (if I was ever aware) the other Pioneers you named in your post. During the Hilltopper game his freshman year (remember, they were ineligible in those days) a brash Maggie skated over to all American Wayne Smith and put the wood to him, just to introduce himself.

Powis I knew played in the NHL (Kansas City, IIRC) and had great potential but Murray kicked him off the team for coming into the Arena one night with a snootful and roughing up one of those 70 year old security dudes. Powis got his picture in SI in the story about the '69 title.

Former Caps goalie Al Jensen has been NHL Central Scouting's goaltender scout for the past 10 years, and this article was posted a few days ago about his thoughts on the current draft eligible goalies. Both DU recruit Brittain and UND recruit Gothberg are on the list:

It's like the MD telethon: "dig deep, we're almost at our goal."
