I may be a bit premature, here, but it's looking like our Olympian Leif may have won the men's race, and that we'll finish the men's race as 1,5,8, with CU sinking like a stone, and New Mexico fading a bit.

Utah also losing some ground, so it looks like an awesome first day for our Pioneers. (Barring a last minute DQ of a DU skier or something...)

Ski team really brought it today. Holy Smokes, aren't we usually trailing after the first few days.

For those of you that didn't make it to the Springs on Saturday and want to know what it was like. Two 30 second videos on the Blog pretty much sum it up. The whole game was like this... :D

Wow, the ski team killed it in the GS today.

Men took 1, 5, 8

Women took 2, 5, 9

Tomorrow ist the women's 5K Classic XC race and the men's 10k Classic XC race.

*tweet* (look who gets to play peace maker!) Swami & Saves, you guys just knock it off and head to neutral corners. Okay? IMHO we're talking about two remarkable goal tenders here. One who led DU to a national championship and along the way made the single most eye popping save in DU history. The other has been darn near invincible this whole season, the one guy who has been there for the Pioneers game after game. And the one guy who really is the reason why DU's got a shot at #8. Let's just congratulate oursevles that we have the riches in goal to have this discussion and hope that Chevy can bring home the trophy like Peter did.

Apart from his talent and status as the top prospect out there, we've just gotta have a kid named Rocco Grimaldi. He's an immediate contender for anybody's all name team. Do we know if he's related to the royal family in Monaco? THAT would be a bonus.

I'm old pio's nephew and I'm 13 1/2 years old. OP is out seeing his shrink, so I thought I'd put in my two cents worth. :p

One thing most recruiters will tell you is that you want to get the last visit. You can bowl a kid over on the first visit and then the pressure starts on subsequent visits. These recruiters are pro's and they make a living leaning on kids, including the old "This scholly offer is for today only."

North Dakota fans think they have the advantage because he listed UND, Denver & Notre Dame in that order.

Anyone want to rent some billbords this summer on I-94 in North Dakota,

"Welcome To North Dakota - Average Winter Temperature -5 Degrees"

Yeah, like Frank Serratore once said (kidding on the level) they always tried to bring recruits in at night. They've got the gold plated arena with the leather covered seats and mahogany doors in the men's room. But they've also got some, uh, non-traditionally good looking women, many of whom are on UND's highly regarded lumberjacking team. I don't know if we can compete. It would be nice when Rocco shows up if there's a brand new NC trophy somewhere about. And some cuties who just happen to be in the Ritchie center renewing their season tickets.

Sometimes you've just gotta have a guy. A few years ago the nephew of the guy who owns the Cubbie-Bear Lounge in Chicago (it's across the street from Wrigley Field) came through rush. I told the brothers we gotta have this kid, Cubbie-Bear is no worse than the second most famous watering hole in Chicago (Billy Goat's Tavern is #1). We got our man and let's hope Gwoz gets his.

Grimaldi is a huge pickup and would be a very welcome addition at any of those three schools. He's from Michigan, so it's not like he's not used to some cold weather. ;)
I think part of UND's attraction for recruits (looking past the REA facilities) is their ability to get players ready for the NHL. It certainly didn't hurt UND's cause to have Parise and Toews rip it up at the Olympics a bit ago.
Grimaldi is a little guy though...not sure what his chances are of really getting to the top level of hockey...he's about the same size as Duncan.

North Dakota has a facilities advantage on every school in America. And they have great coaching and tradition, good TV exposure and a statewide following.

DU counters with great coaching and tradition, good facilities and TV exposure, a better school academically, better weather and scenery, fewer bus rides and a bigger city (NHL games, etc.).

All depends on what you want in a college hockey experience.

I never heard this before...

Canucks forward Mason Raymond has some family ties in Denver. His grandfather, Kenneth, played for the University of Denver hockey team in the mid-1950s, and his grandmother is an Arvada native.

Yeah, I've known this. Gwoz played it smooth one time and said that they just dropped the ball (total BS). Rumor was that he wouldn't have made it past the registrar.

Just remembered that Tony Szabo was one that DU would have had. I think he was a prop 48....
