You win the prize.
Beck played at DU from 1965-67 and was inducted into DU's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997.

du78, so close, but no cigar :p
Harry Hollines played from 1965-68 and was inducted into DU's Athletic Hall of Fame with the Inaugural Class of 1996.

I had the right era, wrong player.

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Winning the orange in this afternoon's practice was Joe Colborne, who scored on four consecutive shots to end the contest early. Four wrist shots, none of them more than a foot off the ice and none of which Adam Murray came close to stopping.

Taking the lemon was volunteer coach Michael Zucker. Brian Gifford was the last player involved in trying to avoid "winning" the lemon. That portion of the contest was interminable as goalie Lars Paulgaard stopped Zucker and Gifford for eleven straight rounds before Gifford slipped a shot into the net and Zucker missed.

Name That Player

Clues:
  1. Squeaky Shoes?
  2. Before Richie Center
  3. ABA
  4. Denver Rockets
  5. DU

A blast (boom boom) from the past ;-)

You'll find the answer here:

That's what I get for not checking in today. Beck was regularly referred to in the media as "Big Burly Byron Beck." And some of us with smart alecky perspectives would try to find other adjectives beginning with "b" to add to his description in an alliteration festival. Big, Burly, Beefy, Bouncing, Bio Degradable, Billious, . . .Byron Beck. Good player, good guy.

Jeez Gifford. I was really counting on him to score his yearly goal against the Badgers last week.

Thanks for the link 78. I have a ton of respect for the guy. He has always been a hard worker. This year he has matured as a pro--instead of going for the spotlight you'll see him making the sweet pass to the open team mate for the easy goal. His transition to the pro level has been about as smooth as any player I've seen.

Dmann, asleep at the wheel this morning  ;)

Bumpity Bump

One day til the "Battle of Grand Forks".

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Pretty good preview of the upcoming men's lacrosse season by Inside Lacrosse.

http://blogs.insidelacrosse.com/201...ecom-2010-ncaa-preview-no-17-denver-pioneers/

IL has them ranked at 17 in the preseason. A little higher than I would think, but there's no doubt there's a Tierney factor included.
Thanks for the link.

The video was excellent. I posted it you-know-where.

Keep feeding us DU lax links, till I get the hang of finding them. Good stuff. Boy, the coach brings a lot of energy to the table.

Sounds like we need to find out more about the "City Lacrosse" movie he was talking about.

Excerpts from a blog on the Leafs network.
[Comment From Guest: ] if you could guess what do you think our top line is going to be next season

Sound crazy but I think it'll be Bozak-Kessel and Stalberg.

[Comment From josephjoseph: ] hey mike, just wondering what you think it will take for ron wilson to get Kessel scoring, i enjoy watching Kessel play, every shot he takes is exciting but not lately what has to be fixed

I don't know. He has such obvious skills and I really believe Bozak is the guy who will best utilize what Kessel brings

http://mapleleafs.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=515141

Bozak seems to be one of the brighter lights on a generally dreary and dismal Leafs team.

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Add another Olympian to DU's count.

Sophomore Leif Kristian Haugen has been named to Norway's Olympic team. Haugen came in third in slalom and second in giant slalom at the NCAA Championships earning him two first team All-American honors last year.

BTW the NCAA Championships are in Steamboat Springs March 10-13

bumparama dama!!

Sorry about yesterday folks, I was out of town!!

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

My understanding is that this weekends games are not on Fox Sports Rocky Mountain, but that they are on some other satellite channels or something. Does anyone know if the channels that the games are on can be picked up by the Campus Lounge, or if any other bars in Denver would be able to pick up the games?

Almost every bar should be able to get the games. Most people with "expanded sports tiers" should be able to get the games at home. If you have a digital cable box the package runs about $5-10 per month.

You can always call the bars with this info or take this info to the bars.

Friday's hockey game between the University of Denver @ North Dakota will be televised by the NHL Network, DirecTV 617 and Fox College Sports-Atlantic. Saturday's game is available on DirecTV 623 and Fox College Sports-Atlantic. Neither game will be telecast on Fox Sports-Rocky Mountain

For those of you in Denver who are used to watching on FSN-RM, I just looked up the Comcast cable schedule for Denver. Tonight's game is on both channels 414 (FCS Central) and 419 (NHL Network). Tomorrow night's game is on 413 (FCS Atlantic).
