Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Sorry if this has already been answered...does anyone know if the game tonight will be televised in HD? I don't currently get the NHL Network in HD but think I'll upgrade for tonight if it's going to be.

The original feed is by FSSN (Fighting Sioux Sports Network) that all the other outlets are picking up. I doubt it is in HD but I will be watching it on NHL Network HD as the picture is much clearer than on FCS Central or non-HD NHL Network all of which I have.

Thanks, '78.

Go DU! Beat the Sioux!

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Dubie got recalled by the Wild from Houston(AHL)

Was all primed to see an all-DU goalie matchup here in CHI this past Wednesday night. Was to have been HOU Aeros Dubie vs CHI Wolves Mannino. Then Finnish flop Kari Lehtonen was sent to CHI by Thrashers for 'conditioning' so he played instead. Now Dubie called up to the Wild. Oh well, it was almost a classic. That left only the possibility of a Mannino vs Berkhoel (CHIvsWBS) matchup, but Adam sent back to purgatory (ECHL) today so that's out too. I just thought it would be fun to go to a game rooting for a 0-0 tie...

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Watching Devils/Leafs before the DU tilt. Devs 2 Leafs 1. 5 minutes left in 1st. Bozak not on the scoresheet yet. Parise with 2 goals and Zajac with 2 assists for the Devs.

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

DU hasn't gone 4-0-0 against North Dakota in the regular season since 92-93 under Serratore.

DU did go 4-0-0 against them in 04-05. Two regular season wins, Final 5 semi-finals & NC game.

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

The 1st period scoring was great last night. And DU fans weren't whining about the number of penalties called like the sues did in November. (well, I did ask for the refs to even the calls up :o ) And the sioux announcers going on and on about goalie interference when that wasn't the call. The PK was awesome. Better PP tonight, please.

It'll be a new game tonight and the team needs to play 60 minutes of powerful hockey so we can SWEEP!

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Some random thoughts:

1- It's been worse, but I definitely don't feel great today.

2- One thing that has eased my pain is the win last night!!

3- I know we should have been routing for CC last night but I couldn't do it.

4- It would be nice to see DU play 60 minutes of hockey, what is that???

5- Sucks about Martin. He is a great player!!

6- My girls placed 4th and 5th respectively in their ski races today. Not great, but not too bad. It certainly wasn't the wax!!!

See you all tonight at some point!!

Mike Chambers is a busy man today with three new posts on his blog. He saw Jesse Martin and his dad at lunch today. Jesse is out 2 to 4 weeks with a shoulder injury. :(

He also spoke with Gwoz and Chevy about last night's win.

He also posted some news and notes from Grand Forks.

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Off topic but interesting....

The DU women's basketball team is in Arkansas this weekend on a road trip to play UALR and Ark. State and filed this nine minute video blog about their team visit to Little Rock Central High School, site of the epic 1957 civil rights showdown between the Governor of Arkansas and the Eisenhower administration when nine African-American students tried to enroll at the school and the 82nd Airborne were sent in by the US Govt to protect the black students and restore order.

First half is a the team looking through the visitor center there, and the second half is bus tour around the school and the neighborhood, narrated by the local team bus driver, who relates his personal recollections of the crisis and its aftermath. This kind of tour stop is a great thing for student-athletes to experience...

Gutsy win tonight! We take 5 of 8 points on tough road trip. Going in we were hoping for 4 points on this tough road trip. Anthony M. was dialed in tonight.

CC comes back several times tonight and score 3 in the third to beat the Cloudies and stop their win streak at 9. DU is in first place all alone. :D

You don't hear Orval Faubus' name much these days, for which we should all be grateful. The only Orville in my life makes popcorn. Cranky old retired 5-Star Ike figured the 101st Airborne would be sufficient to handle the good old boys with badges. He was right.

If you like this kind of DU coverage, leave some comments on Chambers' blog, game recaps or articles. The Post has sent him on the road the last two weekends. More comments equals happy editors which equals more ink. :)

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Well, the Pios answered some lingering questions on their legitimacy as a top tier team with a well-earned sweep at North Dakota, which helps to make up for the 1 point disappointment weekend in Madison.

We are seeing this team come together before our eyes, as players like Colborne, Shore and Maiani stepped up big to help Rak and Ruegs carry the team offensively. Chevy had a superb weekend and the PK is certainly top notch. DU has the capability to be offensively dominant, but we have only seen glimpses of it, and fortunately, the DU offensive bursts this weekend were in those 35 minutes of the weekend when the Sioux weren't wheeling around in DU's end of the ice. Super road performance, and a great result.

While a Sioux sweep is a wonderous confidence builder, there are still plenty of areas to work on as DU heads deeper into the stretch drive, mostly against teams that DU should be able to beat. The one thing we still have yet to see is a full 60 minute DU effort. This last weekend, the Sioux were better for about 90% of the game on Friday, but could not solve Chevy and DU was able to take advantage of a slow start by UND. Last night, UND was the better team in the first half of the game, and DU took advantage of a bad 8 minute stretch by the Sioux by exploding to take the lead, and took care of business with that terrific insurance goal by Rak.

DU has enough talent to beat teams without a 60 minute effort. But I still think there is another gear out there for this group if they have the desire to get there. As this team builds confidence from beating good teams, seeing everyone's feet moving, not taking costly penalties and emerging as the team that gives an effort commensurate with its capabilities is the next level. Hopefully, they continue to grow and develop.

Well said. The 60 minute effort will be necessary for a Ford Field finale.

Wonderful performance this weekend guys. Knew it wouldn't be long before you got back on track.

How money is Rakhshani? I can't believe we swept those tools!

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

According to the bracketology thread, if the whole WCHA season and playoffs ended today, DU as the #2 overall seed probably face #15 overall seed North Dakota in our opening first round NCAA game, as six WCHA teams would make the tourney, and the rule about intra-conference matchups being avoided would be void.

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

"Impressive" doesn't do justice to what the Pioneers accomplished last night. You figure down two, with UND desperate for some points, that maybe, maybe DU could get it tied and hang on in OT. Instead, the Pioneers torch 'em with three unanswered in about 7 minutes. Then add a 4th in the 3rd. Just a powerful performance in every aspect.

What's really gratifying is to read the references to the DU celebration echoing through an empty REA. I'm assuming part of it was singing the D-Rah. Way to go guys.
