All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Cool that Bozak was in the house. He was quoted in the paper as saying that he thought DU looked "incredible" on Saturday night. I agree. If that performance was a sign of things to come, this team is gelling at about the right time.

Colborne and Rakhshani were amazing. I don't watch much college hockey besides DU games. But it's hard to imagine that there's anyone playing better hockey right now than Rhett. And Colborne--he corrals the puck so well and gets his shot off so quickly and accurately. Rhett's passing and Colborne's shot could be one of the deadliest combos in college hockey right now.

And Chevy--wow. On fire. Too bad he didn't get the shutouts. But at least he kept up his save percentage, which should keep him in the Hobey discussions.

4-0 vs. North Dakota, and 4-0 vs. Minnesota. Nice work.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention how cool it was to see Boone get some PRIME visibility in the Fox Sports broadcast of the game. Sweet! Things like that solidify his status as the "de facto" DU mascot.

Olympic Men's Hockey starts tomorrow.
Is it Alfred E. Neumann or...

It's kinda cool that hockey players maintain pride in missing a tooth. But c'mon, Paul--you make lots of $$$. Have a special tooth made that you can break out for special occassions like your Olympic photo. Dentistry has come a long way since the days Paul's dad was playing hockey!

He has the fake tooth and wears a full smile when he wants to, but he often goes with the Jack-o-Lantern look, likely on purpose.

Kinda reminds of the scene in Slap Shot whent the players take the axe to the side of the bus to make it look "mean". :D Its all image.

So I'm still in Denver at me mother in law's house  I'm tapping in on the neighbor's wireless!!! Hah!!! So it was great to see the team in person the other night, just dominating performance. Although, I don't remember a whole lot, thank God for DVR!!! It was great seeing Bagman (we knew each other in college), DG, gave me a bear hug and I spilled my drink on KScant, sorry about that and Chris,! I did not expect to meet such a mild mannered fellow after some of the posts he's written!! Great seeing all you guys!! So here is the good news, I have finagled my way to the game this Friday against Tech, yesssss!!! Puck Swami, will you be in the house? I will see you guys at "the corner" I'm in DU hockey heaven!!!

You got to see DU's finest performance this season {jealous}. I hope you are hitting the slopes while you are out there. USA cleaning up in the Olympics, Bode with a Bronze medal in the DH today and Wescott with Gold in Snowboardcross. USA lead with 8 medals. 2G - 2S - 4B.

Puck Swami, will you be in the house?

Sorry I'll miss you this time. I am headed to Vancouver on Friday for the Olympics, which I always attend. Frankly, I think DU plays better without me!

Two great pieces. I am rooting hard for Stats and Team USA. I remember Andy Gambucci from his reffing days. Real nice guy and always chatting it up with the players letting them know what they could and couldn't do. Was a fair ref and explained everything to the captains even if they didn't agree with his call. Let the boys play but never let the games get out of control. Wish we had more like him on the ice today.

As I remember we always disagreed with his calls
Maybe it was because he went CC, you think?
Interesting to hear the players had a different take.

You were probably leading the GamBOOOOOcci cheer. :D Is there any ref that the fans like? :D

I think it is funny that he remembers the band up in the cage playing 3 Blind Mice when they came on the ice.

Gambucci was a colorful guy, lots of personality, who sometimes seemed to overshadow the games. He reminded me of some colorful National League umpires I grew up with, guys like Al Barlick. And that negative reaction he caused in the DU Arena was part of that personality.

By the time I came along it was a love/hate relatonship. Fans loved getting on his case but also knew he was head and shoulders above other referees. And he was fair, sometimes to a fault. His nephew, Gary, also played for CC and I remember one game in particular where that poor kid couldn't even THINK about committing a penalty, because Uncle Andy was there with his whistle. We could use more like him today.

And from our DELAYED REACTION DEPARTMENT: Lance Momotani
Talk about an icy fist to the solar plexus! **shiver**

Was just thinking, this might be a weekend where Murray gets another start in net. I wouldn't be surprised to see him him between the pipes on Friday night.
