I realize DU is placing emphasis on basketball, but Joe Scott's record doesn't come close to the Gwoz.

It's not about records or even DU's resources as it is about where the coaches are nationally within their own sports' pay scale.

D-I College hoops has a totally different pay scale than hockey does. Joe Scott at $300K is on the lower end of the D-I hoops pay scale, with top 10 hoops coaches making millions.

Gwoz is on the upper end of the college hockey pay scale with a package the probably makes him more than 300K when you throw in camps, etc.

It will get worked out.

Also don't forget they just gave Tierney a boatload to become the Lax coach. He has more street cred than Scott. Gwoz should be the highest paid hockey coach in the country.

OK, I'm at Logan right now, checking the scores, phew!!! I hope we can play well tonight despite it being a Saturday. If the players find out Dmann is in the house, maybe they'll kick some ***!! ;)

From Webster's Intercollegiate Dictionary:

trend *noun* (trnd)

1. The general direction in which something tends to move.
2. A general tendency or inclination. [See Synonyms at tendency.]
3. Current style; vogue: the latest trend in fashion.

Two weeks ago I watched Joe Colborne win the "orange and the lemon" competition. The following day the team traveled to Grand Forks for a series in which Colborne scored the winning goal in each game.

On Thursday afternoon this week I watched Joe Colborne win the "orange and the lemon" competition. The next day Colborne scored the game winning goal against Minnesota.

Trend===> a general tendency or inclination

ASAAG, you are going to have to go to the orange/lemon every week and give us the full report, the trend now also includes you :D

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Gifford gets a goal against the gophs!

Vossberg gets an assist!

Last night Gifford asked Jay, who was better looking--Vossberg or him?

Must be Gifford :-}

I guess 4 shutouts in a row would have been rubbing it in. :D

You rubbed our nose in it quite enough, thankyouverymuch.

I see F4 in DU's future. Dam good team. And hope many a fan come out to the F5. For real.

If this is any indication, Minnesota men's hockey was shutout. Could it be an omen for this weekend's games. Total score DU 8 Minnesota 0

Total score for the weekend DU 8 Minnesota 2 :D  :D

Except for a deflection last night in the final minute of play--on which Marc Cheverie had no chance--Joe Colborne would have scored both game winning goals in the Minnesota series.

While North Dakota and Minnesota may not have their usually strong teams this season it's heartening to see young Colborne playing so well late in the season against two schools which so often do have solid teams.

It's one thing to score goals at home, early in the season, in a non-conference series and quite another to score important goals, late in the season, in the heat of a closely contested race for the conference championship. Joe 'did it all' this weekend as he scored a SHG, a PPG and an ESG.

Colborne was [10-21-31] as a freshman and this season is already [16-16-32] with what looks like a healthy number of games remaining to be played in Denver's season. I hope he continues to play the productive hockey he's authored over the past two months.

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

I wasn't able to see either game live this weekend, but I've watched the tapes and I am liking what I am seeing. It's never happened that DU would sweep Minnesota (and North Dakota) in the same regular season in 60 years of Pioneer hockey. While celebrating sweeps is nice, the bigger picture is that the DU team is really starting to come into it's own and perhaps is starting the process of peaking at the right time. Saturday night blowouts are not the norm for this team, and clearly, DU is figuring out that this team has a shot to go as far as their work ethic will carry them. Cheverie's stats, given the quality of the WCHA, are really excellent, and it's amazing to watch a player like Colborne developing before our eyes from a lanky, cerebral pass-first player into a more confident, dynamic player that we'd all hoped he'd become.

As for Minnesota, seeing a talent-laden Gopher team struggle to score goals is fairly rare, and I'd like to think that the Gophers will right the ship soon - if not this season, than next. The WCHA needs a strong Minnesota program, the same way it needs Wisconsin and North Dakota to be strong.

Lots of laughs this weekend, but this was one of my favorites....

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Love the comment. Bozak was our Gopher killer in the past and now we have Chevy & Big Joe.

"Turns out this Joe Colborne kid can play a little. The sophomore forward had four goals in the Pioneers’ weekend sweep of Minnesota, three of them coming in DU’s 5-1 drubbing of the Gophers at Magness Arena Saturday."

DU is 9-1-1 against the Gophers in the Bozak, Chevy, Colborne era. DU better get the checkbook out for Gwoz.

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Bozak was at the game Saturday night as the Leafs had already broken for the NHL Olympic break.
