It's official--Troy Terry selected for the Olympic team!

Will Borgen (St. Cloud), Ryan Donato (Harvard), and Jordan Greenway (BU) are the other current collegians selected. Most of the other players do have a NCAA background.

Re: ALL THINGS DENVER--XL--This one's for Old Pio

Sad news--DU great Jim Wiste died January 2, 2018. Jim was Captain of the 1968 National Championship team and an All American in 1967 and 1968. From 1976 until 2016 he was the proprietor of the Campus Lounge.the iconic watering hole for DU hockey players, fans, and NHL players. Jim's brother, Wayne, came to DU a year earlier. The two played together for the Pioneers through 1967 and both graduated from DU--Wayne, BS 1967 and Jim BSBA 1968.

Jim, Cliff Koroll, and Keith Magnuson were Pioneers on the ice for DU and as part of the initial class of collegiate skaters to play in the NHL. All 3 played for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Kevin Magnuson
@kevinmags27
One of my favorite people in the world, Jim Wiste, has joined my Dad in Heaven. You'd be hard pressed to find a sweeter, funnier and more successful person rolled into one. Jimmy took great care of me. Love you! #campuslounge @du_hockey @nhlblackhawks

When Keith tragically died in an auto accident, Kevin was in Law School at DU. Jim was the one who had to tell him of his father's death and give him support during this difficult time.

Re: ALL THINGS DENVER--XL--This one's for Old Pio

Vote For Hobey is up and running. DU has 3 of the 74 in the first round of fan voting. Can you guess who?

Borgstrom, Gambrell and Terry

Adam Wooton on CHN thinks a strong 2nd half could give DU back to back Hobey winners-- Borgstrom to follow Butcher.

Re: ALL THINGS DENVER--XL--This one's for Old Pio

Only because he is JP's brother, Mike Testuide will be playing in the Olympics for South Korea. It appears he has had South Korean citizenship since 2015.

No DU logo next to Erik Middendorf on the latest US NTDP line-chart...?

Good catch.
NTDP U18 roster shows Middendorf as uncommitted.

DU currently has 6 NLI's signed for 2018-19 (4 forwards and 2 D-men) and just got a verbal from USHL's leading goalie, Filip Larsson. Plus 3 other recruits who were originally slotted for this season.

Current roster has 4 seniors (Junda, Jaillet, Plant and Hammond) and 3 pretty much expected to leave early (Borgstrom, Gambrell and Terry). That is 4 forwards, 2-D-men and 1 Goalie.

Either DU asked Middendorf to wait a year/ no scholarship money available or he and his "family adviser" decided that chances were not good for a scholie/didn't want to wait until 2019-2020 and this would be a good time to reopen recruitment . Since DU can't talk about recruits until NLI is signed there has been no public announcement.

Just thinking out loud - it occurred to me that DU has struggled with depth this season due to injury. As a result they were forced to bring in a D and an F mid-season. I wonder if they needed scholarship money to convince those players to join mid season and that ate up Middendorf's piece of the pie or facilitated a deferral request?

Adding Guttman late in the process (for 2018) also could have been a major factor...

That is 12-straight wins over Omaha for DU. The Pios have outscored the Mavericks 47-14 over that stretch and have not lost to UNO since I moved to Denver. Amazing dominance of a pretty good opponent. Omaha has to be thrilled this is a one series year with DU...
