Albany Regional Weekend

Re: Albany Regional Weekend

On Saturday, the Palace Theater is showing a screening of "Miracle." This is free with your ticket to the games.

Re: Albany Regional Weekend

You guys are suggesting I knock on suite doors and beg for beer?

I crashed a suite in Bridgeport a few years back, also the Fairfield University reception at Bridgeport the following year. At the Frozen four semis in Philly I bought a suite ticket off of a BC priest for 10 bucks, any port in a storm.

Re: Albany Regional Weekend

Same street as the arena, but closer to half a mile walk than 2 blocks.

Re: Albany Regional Weekend

Can't wait. We'll be there in Section 104. Go UML!!
How dicey is it to park on the street in downtown Albany??
Do they allow overnight parking?? Or is it just worth the $14/night to park at the hotel??

I am not sure about safety, but I just checked the parking authority site for Albany and on street spaces with parking meters are free on weekends. there are other more reasonably priced garages nearby.

Yes, definitely looks like there are many parking options nearby with the garage directly attached to the arena appearing to be the most expensive. Everything looks very walkable so it doesn't look like parking will cost an arm and a leg. I'll end up just buying my ticket Saturday when I get there either in one of Lowell's two sections or immediately adjacent. Then maybe check out Q's pregame as that place looks good and then on to Lowell's at 4:00.

Re: Albany Regional Weekend

Keep calm and get that all-ECAC regional final.

That will becomes someones nightmare on Whitney Avenue. Checking the Saturday seat map on ticketmaster, the lower bowl looks to be about 3/4th's sold with between 100-150 tickets left in the Yale, QU, and Lowell sections, RIT sections are sold out except for two singles. Lots of seats behind the nets. Sunday looks like many less tickets sold, i am sure many are hedging their bets until the finalists are known

Some advice for those going to Albany Pump Station: reservations. If you plan on eating before the 1st game Saturday, you should be OK, but if not you will likely need reservations. And it's not a "cool" brewpub like most, it's not as casual as those, it has a more uptight feel as they cater more to the dining crowd than the beer fan.

I'll add my $.02 for some more casual places, open and friendly with good food. I'd recommend Parish Public House on Broadway, New Orleans style food and a good draft beer menu, about 4 blocks to the TU. Also Hillstreet Cafe on Western, standard pub fare that is excellent, about 2 blocks away from the TU.

Good recommendations. However, Hill Street Cafe is on Madison Avenue, not Western. Very small place, but the food is really good.
Also, as far as parking goes, there is a good sized open air lot on Grand Street, next to the arena. They usually charge $5 per day, and is very easy to get out of, unlike the garages.

Re: Albany Regional Weekend

Beat me to it RPI fan.

Just an FYI, Hill Street is on Madison, not Western -- small and a bit grungy but good food and beer and close to the arena to the South. A few other places to consider if they have not been mentioned are the City Beer Hall which is very close to the arena and Public House 42 on Eagle Street up the hill from the arena but still very close. All of these are much closer to the arena than most of the other places I've seen mentioned liked the Pump Station, Druthers, Merry Monk, etc. Although I would add that if I was going to stretch my legs more than two blocks, the Merry Monk would be my choice.

Enjoy the games!

In the areas in the immediate vicinity of the arena, not very. You have a nice strip of bars, hotels and theaters on the South Pearl/North Pearl area, so it's fine. As I previously mentioned, there is a free garage across the highway from the arena, that's very easy to get into and out of because it is attached right to the plaza arterial. Just follow the signs for the Empire State Plaza, go under the concourse (ignore all of the parking signs under there) loop around and get back onto the arterial. The first exit after you come out from underneath the concourse will lead you right to the garage. If you are willing to walk (not far) that's where I park. It's free after all the state workers leave (and on weekends) and not far from the TUC. I have gotten out of events at 11:30 and it is still open, I think it's one of those 24 hour garages. Not sure though.

Public House 42 is the site of the Yale pre-game and will be crowded for most of the late afternoon, reception starts at 3:30
