Albany Regional Weekend

Re: Albany Regional Weekend

I cant see them selling beer due to the fact that it is a college event. i guess i should have put commas between words....Ill be at the rink, bar, and my hotel. It seems like most people will be at the albany pump bar. Ill have to hit it up.

They sell beer at the RPI/Union game. Not sure about an NCAA tournament even though.

Oh ok. I didnt know that. I have west point by my house and they dont sell any beer and any events. Ive been to yale and dont remember them serving beer either.

Re: Albany Regional Weekend

Lowell led Hockey East in attendance this year without having the biggest arena or student population. If the league was really worried about attendance in the NCAA Tournament they’d take a few pages out of Lowell’s book. Keep prices low, reward your best customers with promotions, partner locally, let college students in for free or very cheap and sell beer!

The insurance on selling beer is gotta be high. Underage drinking a problem at the arena? friends buying friends beer? Just curious how they do it. I like the rest of what your saying. The college students are the ones who bring the atmosphere to an arena

Re: Albany Regional Weekend

I second the Albany Pump Station. Very good food and beer in cool brewpub atmosphere. It's not really close to the arena, but it does have its own parking lot, which is rare downtown. Another option very close to the arena is The City Beer Hall. I can't vouch for the food (because I haven't eaten there) and it's not a brewpub, but they have a very good selection of draft and bottled beer. It's about a block northeast of the arena, on a side street.

This place is great, everytime you order a drink you get a "free" pizza with it, the size of a paper plate. For someone like me, I go as the DD, and I eat for free. :D Also, go upstairs and ride the mechanical bull (Pictures need to be posted here please) and try to break the record. Just be careful, parking is very limited, and with the construction of the new Albany Convention Center, it's even more limited than normal.

Have never seen or heard it being an issue at Tsongas Center. As soon as Meehan became Chancellor several years ago, he immediately implemented alcohol sales for the UML games as the previous Chancellor had never allowed it. Meehan saw the revenue potential as well. He also implemented the free admission with student id which provided a huge boost as well.

Thats awesome to hear. yes there is def revenue opportunity in it but i was just bringing up potential problems but im glad that no problems have arisen. I wish more college venues had beer sales

Re: Albany Regional Weekend

Quinnipiac pre game is at The City Beer Hall starting at 1:30pm

This place looks like way more fun than where Lowell is at the Pearl Street Pub starting at 4:00. May have to stop by as anticipating being in Albany around 2:30 Saturday.

It's definitely never been a problem at the Tsongas. They card just about everybody without exception at the beer stands (I've seen them card a guy who was definitely 60+) and there are dedicated "Alcohol Compliance" staff.

About the only "problem" I've seen is there's a guy who's probably 45 or so who sits near me who occasionally has a beer or three too many and then starts shouting truly nonsense complaints at the refs.

Re: Albany Regional Weekend

Another cool place to check out is the Merry Monk. Pretty extensive beer selection including several different bottled beers from the US and Europe. Really good food, try the Mussels. It's down a block from the Pearl Street Pub going away from the arena.

I think youknow this, but an NCAA event is alcohol free.

They have an upstairs there? From the looks of it, that's where this place used to be, can't remember the name of it, was like a 1920's gangster/jail-themed name. The Hoosegow, or Iron Bar, or something like that. That was a decent place, although looking at the Monk's beer list, it looks a bit more upscale than the old place was.

Ah, just remembered it. It was called The Big House.
