Alaska Nanooks 2015-16 Season Thread - Straight Outta Sanction…

Gets out of town when the going gets tough? That's all I need to know.

Considering he's from Minnesota, did you ever consider there may be other issues than the "going got tough?" There are myriad possible reasons he is leaving and willing to sit a year.

Interesting article about Krieger leaving.

No real drama with players or Coach, but hedges his bet a little with our lack of success based on playing style. Not sure what he means, the coach still has to work with what he's got. We sure as heck didn't play a defensive game. And this still doesn't explain why no one on our team could pass. Is that a "style."

He is a good kid and we should wish him well. No one should ever hold it against a player for moving on. Life is too complicated to be concerned about what a few beer drinking fans of a niche sport think about how their weekend entertainment experience might be impacted. Have another cold one and move. Nothing changes the fact that Anchorage still sucks! :)

Of all thing things "style of play" would be the low on my list of reasons to transfer. Didn't think style of play would be an issue for recruits, but perhaps it could be. It's something that I'd bet other coaches would use against WCHA teams.

Yeah, one would think. I do hope he does well at Duluth...everybody has to make choices and sometimes they aren't easy.

Talk about a goofy 2016 Kendall schedule. Only three teams.

UAA plays Minnesota Friday night.
Then UAA plays UAF Saturday night.
Minnesota takes Saturday night off and rests up.
Then UAF plays Minnesota Sunday at 4:30pm.

So there will be about 1,500 folks in attendance Saturday night and about 150 Sunday (100 Nook fans, 25 Gopher fans, and 25 Sullivan staff). Good effort Anchorage. If we merge programs, at least we know where and why hockey should end up. :)

yeah, that is a little wonky... Why only three teams this year and not four?

I had heard rumors last year that you guys were going to drop the Kendall. But that was only a rumor.

So not sure if this is just a unfortunate scheduling glitch, or some sort of contract commitment on the last Kendall. Of course, there is the possibility that it becomes a moot point for either the Kendall or Brice.

If I'm Kendall Auto, I wonder what I'm really getting out of that tournament sponsorship. If I'm UAA, I would want to keep it around as whatever they get for sponsorship money likely helps offset the cost of bringing two L48 teams up here, I.e. cheaper than paying travel costs for non-sponsored games.

Both it, and the Brice, would be better served if it was a true tournament where the winners of the Friday games play Saturday for the title.

But I know, Alaska exemption, blah blah blah.

Too bad the Gophers aren't coming to UAF...it'd be a cool tie-in with Lucia. Word was Minnesota was supposed to come for the Brice last year but backed out, hence AIC coming instead.

Today’s UAA press release about their hockey schedule mentions that that the Governor’s Cup is still a four game series. You almost have to know what is going on to realize that UAA is scheduled to play UAF that Saturday night (Oct 8th) of the Kendall Classic. It’s not really even noted that there is a game, much less it’s a non-conference, non-Governor’s Cup match up.

Woody is reporting the Classic is done, so whatever. Honestly, why didn’t we just give Minny the finger and tell them to stay home? Lucia would not have minded. Plus that’d be another 30/40,000 we saved, plus the headache that is Lucia and his band of pompous little rodents. Plus, then we would play six games against each other, might cut down on the number of shootouts.

I was thinking this exact same thing today. If they have already done away with the tournament, why have ANY team come up at all? The format makes no sense, and UAA could save a ton of money by having a UAA/UAF series instead. Common sense people.

Who was the team that backed out of the "tournament"?

You would think UA_ would jump on that so that they could maybe catch up in the heads up department before 2075.

Nothing better than banging with your biggest rival.... never too many times to lace'm up for that.
