Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

Re: Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

If we should be fortunate enough to host a playoff March 13-15, things could get interesting. Arctic Winter Games (Alaska, Canada, Iceland, Greenland, and Russia) begin that weekend and about 2,000 athletes (ages 13-24) plus about 3,000 coaches, chaperons, and family members are expected to be in town.

I would think that airline tickets and hotel rooms would be at a premium. The opening ceremonies are scheduled for Sunday March 16th at the Carlson, so if the series goes three games the overnight turn-around will be a stressor for them. About half of Fairbanks and all of Anchorage and the rest of the WCHA hope we don't host.

Go Nooks!

There are people in Fairbanks that don't want the Nanooks to host. I've heard it first hand. Carlson Center staff want the Nanooks to host--more hours to work. Arctic Winter Games people... Not so much... While the opening and closing ceremonies will be at the Carlson, the only events that they're hosting outside of that is speed skating...

Re: Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

If all goes well the Nooks can sweep the Seawolves, retain the Governor’s Cup for the fifth straight year, secure third place and a home playoff spot, knock the Seawolves out of the playoffs, and watch Colton Beck top one hundred career points.

But it won’t be easy. Everything is on the line for the Seawolves and they no doubt will bring it. The Nooks will have to match and sustain an intensity level all weekend that probably hasn’t been seen in the Carlson for quite some time. Not too often do both teams have so much riding on one series. Good luck to both teams.

Go Nooks!

Well, that escalated quickly. I mean, that really got out of hand.

That was “almost” too unfair. I feel like I just watched a group of kids beat up a little girl and steal her lunch money.

Trap game tonight. UAA won't come out soft again, and they have more to play for than just the Governor's Cup.

Re: Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

The worrisome part of all this is that all streaks come to an end. If the Cup weren’t on the line it wouldn’t be so terrible if the Nooks dropped a game and were brought back to reality a little. They have earned and deserve every point during their run, but if it is inevitable, I would rather see a little let down now than in the playoffs.

I think it is likely we host NMU, and we have a history of grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory against them…even at home. We want to go into the playoffs confident, but not over-confident.

But tonight decides the Cup, so nevermind.

Go Nooks!

"I really hoped that Forest Carr would change things. He did so much while at UA_. He's been publicly absent since his hiring."
I cut this directly from the NMU thread and pasted it here. Changed absolutely nothing including the "UA_".
The poster seemed to think Carr was pretty good when he was with you.
Is that true?

Really nice guy, but he hired Clem Johnson and Doc DelCastillo. Community interest also lagged in the athletic program while he was there. I've been happy with Dr. Gray so far.

Edit: he also hired Dallas Ferguson and Mick Durham, which made up for the other two.

For the record, Dallas was higher on Forrest's list than Doc was. Doc won over the others who don't know anything about hockey with his "charm"...

I sthere any word on Tyler Morley will he be back this weekend?

The News Miner tweeted that he was at practice but didn't skate, and is "day to day".

Alaska Hockey says his mole told him Morley won't play. That's some great intel about a guy who was on crutches on Saturday.

My guess is he sits out this series and, should we advance, is back for the Final 4ive.
