Alaska Nanooks, 2011-12 Season Thread - The Long Goodbye.

Re: Alaska Nanooks, 2011-12 Season Thread - The Long Goodbye.

Well, another tough loss in a season full of tough losses. I didn't get a chance to watch tonight but it sounds like Michigan threw the kitchen sink at Greenham and one finally got through.

Sour way to start a month-long break, but hopefully we can get healed up and make a run in the 2nd half.

Merry Christmas to all Nook fans.

May the Bear shine bright the second half.

Happy New Year.

Here's to hoping the 'Nooks bring the house in the 2nd half.

It's a new year and Fairbanks temps are hovering around -40. Some things you just can't control. Maybe injuries and bad bounces fall into that category. I guess we could use that excuse. But good teams don't make excuses and good teams create their own luck.

It will be interesting to see what our team is made of the second half. We need to start playing desperate playoff-esque hockey starting next weekend.

The pic above was taken this afternoon near the Carlson. Don't hurry back boys. Focus on the task at hand. And for the record, I totally embrace global warming. Screw the real polar bears.

Go Nooks!

The next couple weeks will be tough, between the Marquette black hole and a stout Ferris team. If we play like we did the last three weeks of the first half, good things can still happen.

I can understand why you are a little tired of the weather you live for in _airbanks , But Dude why are you dishing Nome-Beltz High school?:D

Re: Alaska Nanooks, 2011-12 Season Thread - The Long Goodbye.

An unfortunate score tonight, thanks to an ENG and a late, late third period score. But, anytime we can squeeze a couple points out of that black hole on the UP is a good time, particularly after a long layoff.

On to Ferris next weekend, then back home (finally).

Nome-Beltz only has the best mascot of any high school in this great state.
Sorry square i think North Dakota is a little jealous of the Aniak Halfbreeds as a school mascot. I wear their school shirt proudly.and as MMF stated for the record UA_ mascot is not real.
Better get the Gov Cup thread up as you host the Saturday night game before somebody has to do it for you.

Re: Alaska Nanooks, 2011-12 Season Thread - The Long Goodbye.

Well, four points out of two weeks on the road isn't great, but considering the struggles this team has had I can live with it. I was disappointed in last night's loss; that was a winnable game if we hadn't spent so much time in the box, and sure enough on the 7th PP Ferris gets the game winner.

Two weeks at home will be nice, and all four games are winnable. Keep the faith.

Now that we have pretty much pi**ed away the regular season, are we going to start seeing someone else share time in net? Either Greenham or the boys in front of him (it really doesn't matter which) haven't gotten it done this season, so is it time start thinking about next season's goalie situation? Seems we need to start giving someone else some game experience.

Go Nooks!

Photography is a hobby, and I enjoy tying it in with hockey. Sometimes it's a stretch. But I like this shot and somewhere in this valley is nestled the Carlson Center, Bowling Green's next CCHA stop. This shot was taken about 1:30 Saturday afternoon. Combined three shots and applied a painterly effect. Temps in the Tanana Valley were about -45, and the ice fog was settling in. The Falcon's shouldn't worry tho, it's supposed to warm up to -10 or so by the weekend.

We did that in November when Thompson got the call against Notre Dame, and Greenham proceeded to go 4-2 in the next six games with three shutouts...and one of those losses was the 1-0 loss to Michigan in OT that could have gone either way.

Quite frankly, if we don't sweep BG this weekend (which we should) it might be time to give Thompson another game. When he got the nod at Notre Dame it seemed to fire the guys up for the rest of the first half.

Re: Alaska Nanooks, 2011-12 Season Thread - The Long Goodbye.

Adam Henderson was suspended today for one game by the CCHA for an illegal hit to the head in the Ferris series last weekend.

Re: Alaska Nanooks, 2011-12 Season Thread - The Long Goodbye.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda. Should have swept BG last weekend, but decided to take an extra night off. Can't pin that Friday loss on Thompson and Cahill; the guys in front of them played like a team with no hope.

Back in November, Notre Dame delivered two gut punch losses in games that we would have won if we hadn't taken the pedal off the gas. Hopefully we can return the favor, even though our recent record against the domers is about as abysmal as it is against NMU.

Either way, go Nooks. One day at a time.

Re: Alaska Nanooks, 2011-12 Season Thread - The Long Goodbye.

Good win tonight, definitely didn't take the foot off the throttle either. Looks like this Nanooks team is finally finding its stride. Good time to be playing your best hockey.

Re: Alaska Nanooks, 2011-12 Season Thread - The Long Goodbye.

Is it just me, or does this team have an issue with ill-timed turnovers? Notre Dame scored seven goals this weekend (including one ENG), and by my count at least three of those were the direct result of turnovers in either the neutral zone or defensive zone.

Regardless, Friday's night win over the Irish was one of, if not the best, game so far this year. I was especially happy to see the guys stand up for each other after ND tried to start the funny business in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Past iterations of this year's squad would have just stood around.

Saturday...started hot, but like the two games in South Bend couldn't finish hot. Give the Irish credit...that squad is loaded with talent and when they play as a team they're pretty formidable.

This weekend in K-zoo, hopefully we can push the Broncos around the same way they embarrassed us in Fairbanks in October. I'd like to think we are a different team than what they saw the first time around.

Re: Alaska Nanooks, 2011-12 Season Thread - The Long Goodbye.

FYI. Alaska native Matt Friese (Lincoln Stars - USHL) committed to UAF over the weekend.

Thanks for the info. It's always nice to keep the Alaska kids in the state. That's one area that Coach Ferguson has started to make more inroads (in-state recruiting) and it will help our program in the long run, especially from a statewide visibility standpoint.
