Alaska Nanooks, 2010-11 Season Thread – Global disruption...

SQB - I'd have to look back at the actual results, but I can't remember Miami sweeping the Nooks in Oxford in more than 5 or 6 years. Always a good series. Oh, I read in the News-Miner (well, online that is) that a local station is picking up the ONN (Ohio News Network) broadcast of the games. The broadcast quality isn't very good, but it'll be on TV at least. The play-by-play guy is our former radio guy, Dave Allen. Super nice guy. It'll be a homer call, but maybe you can turn him down and listen to your radio guys.

I was looking at the Miami thread and they already have plans on their NCAA seeding and who they will play. Pretty confident group that seems to already have racked up a sweep of the nanooks. Just like I was hoping the nooks would end Comley's career in Fairbanks, I hope we can put a dent in Miami's NCAA seeding. Do teams overlook us or is it just their fans.

I don't know if anyone is overlooking UAF. Its the playoffs and anything can happen. I remember NMU knocking us out after a bye a few years back and pretty sure Lake did too. Hell BG hadn't even win consecutive ccha games til last weekend. We're just in a pretty good spot, that barring a nooks sweep, we should get an at large bid. Your team has a great D, but so do we, along with one of the nations best offenses powerplays and PK. Should be a good weekend. Looking forward to our first home games in a month.

I'm hoping for three games, we have been very inconsistant this year, our offense sometimes goes missing at the worse times, and sometimes I don't think Greenham sees the puck too well, but here's to a good series and no injuries. Good luck.

We do have our mind on NCAA seeding and understand that we have an opportunity to not only continue the chase for the Mason Cup, but if the weekend turns out in our favor, jump some teams in the PWR. But, have to take care of business against an opponent that has been tough on us over the years.

I think your eyes are a little too sensitive.

It must be the long hours of darkness we have, I'll try it again this weekend after daylight savings time is adjusted.

Ironically enough I think last week was one of our best weekends all year in terms of playing two strong games back to back. Hopefully it carries over.

Paula Weston picked a Miami sweep. We might actually have a chance after all...

Joking aside, tonight is the key. If we can get a win tonight, I'll take our chances on Saturday and Sunday. If Miami wins tonight, I think they smell blood in the water tomorrow.

Either way, Go Nooks. Get it done.

After re-watching the series from earlier this season, I pieced together a post this morning over at the blog detailing some points and how the Nanooks can win.

http://nanookhockey.blogspot.com/2011/03/slowing-their-roll-taking-down-miami.html

The 'Nooks have got to contain the puck and take away the open ice and challenge Miami deep in their own zone. Make them come 200 feet to get to the net and put pressure on them the entire way. Scottie can't leave any big rebounds out there for Miami to take advantage of. I'm perfectly fine with him freezing it after every shot if he needs to.

Miami is a good team, and it's gonna be a battle this weekend. Go 'Nooks!

I've said this before but the trick to beating Miami is to not play their game. If we can control the flow of the game then I'll take our chances but if they dictate how the game is played it'll be over quick.

I know we can do it, but it will take two A++ games to make it happen.

Well...I guess it's time for the offseason thread.

Your boys played hard this weekend and kept us on our toes. Might not show up on the scoreboard, but was a great series. Probably the best kind of games we could have asked for heading to the Joe, made us come back both nights and shutdown the big guns pretty well, had to get some secondary scoring. Safe travels back to Fairbanks for everyone involved, see you all in the great white north next season.
