It's A Great Day For Hockey
Re: Adrian vs SNC @ 'The Stone'
While I have full faith and confidence in Coach and the team, I have to say this thought keeps sticking in the back of my brain: I hope that, after three years of Adrian's efforts, this game does not become a hockey version of the first AFL-NFL Championship Game.
The NFL establishment put great pressure on Coach Lombardi and the Packers to show the AFL "who's boss."
In this respect, SNC could be viewed as the traditional power - the Packers - and Adrian as the upstart AFL team. I don't think the comparison does either team any justice, but it seems SNC might be put in a no-win situation, image-wise:
* If SNC wins, it's only because it should
* If Adrian wins, it's solidifies the argument it got screwed the last two years.
I sincerely hope it doesn't get viewed that way. The teams change so much from year to year. At the very least, this isn't the same Green Knight team that won the title two years ago or didn't make the NCAAs last year.
I expect it to be a very good game. And we all know any one is beatable on any given night. Regardless of outcome, I hope my above fear doesn't become reality.
I don't mean it to sound defensive or like I'm making excuses for a possible loss ahead of time - that's not how it's intended. I think some times too big a picture is drawn from one, specific event.
