Adrian Hockey, 2014-2015: The Kids Are All Right.

Re: Adrian Hockey, 2014-2015: The Kids Are All Right.

Adrian 4
St. Norbert 2

Hell of a game on our part. We had SNC snuffed out, and had built a 4-0 lead until late in the 2nd, when a bad clearing attempt led directly to SNC putting the first goal on the board. From there it seemed like we were trying to hang on, even at 4-1 and 4-2. A great 40 minutes of effort, followed by a meh final 20 minutes.

Gotta finish the weekend, boys.

Re: Adrian Hockey, 2014-2015: The Kids Are All Right.

Adrian 6
SNC 4

Anyone who saw this coming, raise your hands. If your hand is raised, you're full of ****.

First of all, best wishes to Jacobsen, the SNC goaltender. He limped off the ice during warmups, was not in uniform for this afternoon's game, and was in a boot afterwards. That's the entirety of what I know, and I'm not speculating further.

A tremendous effort this weekend on our part. That's what got it done. We got to an early lead both nights, and weathered an SNC comeback and hung on. A good, chippy, physical series from both teams. We're not done with SNC yet, gentlemen.

Smevoll can go on the list of crappy NCHA referees right next to Olm. Swenson was mediocre at best, but for the league to send those two to work a game between the top two teams in the league, a series that could very easily decide the league crown, and shape the postseason tournament, is baffling. At least one of the Olsons should have been on the ice. Sending Smevoll to work a series like this is like sending Chuck E. Cheese to fill in for Mickey Mouse at the Magic Kingdom. And I would make that statement, whether the top two teams in the league are Adrian-SNC or Finlandia-MSOE. The top referees should be working the top series of the season. Period.

Now, then. Let's not lose focus on the last four games. This coming weekend's series against Lawrence has "letdown" written all over it. Let's not waste what we did this weekend by not handling business in Appleton. Enjoy this weekend, boys. You earned it. But come Monday morning, there's work to be done.

Re: Adrian Hockey, 2014-2015: The Kids Are All Right.

I watched both SNC/Adrian games this weekend. As an impartial observer my take is that in the first game Adrian took it more seriously in the first half, looked like they came in with a serious game plan and SNC was trying to play catchup in the second half but couldn't make it. The second game looked like it was all Adrian. They out hustled and out muscled SNC almost the entire game. A lot of penalties were called, it seemed the refs were calling it pretty even so no complaints there. I predicted a sweep this weekend but I didn't think it was going to be by Adrian, congrats on a very well played and well executed set of games.

Re: Adrian Hockey, 2014-2015: The Kids Are All Right.

I thought that we played better offensively in Saturday's game, but the D and tender play was sub par.
Friday night was a complete disaster....no fire, plenty of shots on goal, but could not mount a complete comeback.
Had a great time talking to some Adrian fans at the games and several SNC parents at the hotel.
Our group (John, Cathy and Tina) ate @ JR's twice and enjoyed it both times.
Total credit to the Bulldogs on a great plan of attack..and better yet for them, they executed it in both games.
I would imagine that next Friday can't come soon enough for SNC..

Re: Adrian Hockey, 2014-2015: The Kids Are All Right.

Very entertaining games. Solid in both ends of the rink.
Compete with that same intensity every time you lace them up, mix in a little more discipline , and write some history.
Go Bulldogs !!

Re: Adrian Hockey, 2014-2015: The Kids Are All Right.

This one is a two-parter.

Adrian beats Lake Forest 6-2 and with that win, Adrian wins the NCHA regular season championship outright. As a matter of fact, both the men's and women's teams have won the NCHA outright.

Nice job, guys (and girls). But this was the easy part. Now the focus shifts to securing our place in the NCAA tournament, both in the sense of the Pool A bid, and getting that regional ranking as high as possible. We're going to need that down the line as well, for both teams.

Rest easy and rest well tonight, gentlemen. You've earned it. But there's more to be done tomorrow.

Here's part 2. This post will not be about Adrian hockey.

Lake Forest and their broadcasting crew should be commended for tonight's presentation. After the game, they showed the presentation of the NCHA championship trophy, right after we beat their team to seal it.

Well done, gentlemen. Thank you very much.

Re: Adrian Hockey, 2014-2015: The Kids Are All Right.

Thank you. I had to mention that. Right is right.

Just looked at the box to confirm my suspicion. Olm worked tonight's game. Let's not have a fiasco tomorrow afternoon, please.

Re: Adrian Hockey, 2014-2015: The Kids Are All Right.

Okay, looking ahead to next weekend:

Finlandia's season ends tomorrow.
Concordia has the tiebreaker over Northland if it comes down to that for the last playoff spot and a date with Adrian next weekend. Those are the only two we could draw next weekend.

I see SNC winning big tomorrow after letting Northland hang around tonight. That would secure the #2 seed for SNC. A Northland loss knocks them out with Concordia having the tie-breaker. LFC would be the #3. Marian can leapfrog St. Scholastica by winning tomorrow setting up a 4v5 matchup with MSOE. LFC would get St. Scholastica in the 3v6 matchup. SNC would get Lawrence in the 2v7; and, Adrian would get Concordia in the 1v8.

Re: Adrian Hockey, 2014-2015: The Kids Are All Right.

A pair of 6-2 finals this weekend, both going our way. I find it completely amusing that our only loss was to the last place team in the league.

I don't know how many of our Adrian contingent reads this board, or if I'm all alone yammering like a complete idiot all by myself here, but I'm going to say this anyway: if you have any notions of coming home tonight, don't. Stay the night in Illinois. 2" of snow, plus blowing what we already have at about 20-30 MPH all day today, has made the roads complete and absolute **** today. Don't risk it.

Re: Adrian Hockey, 2014-2015: The Kids Are All Right.

We handled our business this past weekend, in a manner that we would have expected.

St. Scholastica is next, after knocking off Lake Forest tonight in the mini-game.

Boys, you want to erase the taste of last year's NCHA semis? Here's your chance. Rest up. There's work to be done. The easy part is over.

Re: Adrian Hockey, 2014-2015: The Kids Are All Right.

If you look at the history of any championship team, you will find a win along the way like the one the Bulldogs pulled off tonight.
An incredible win for the team and for Bulldogs fans everywhere.
Celebrate , then focus on the road ahead.

Final - OT

This was one heck of a game tonight. St. Scholastica scored 23 seconds into the game off of a horrific turnover near the net that wound up, well, in the back of the net. From there we didn't really get that many scoring chances until we potted one on a wrap-around to tie it at 1 in the 2nd. In the last minute of the 2nd period the Saints untied the game with a goal of their own, and a goal with under 7 to go gave CSS a 3-1 lead, and the rest of us thought, "Well, at least we've got a nice shot at an at-large bid...we think". Adrian came right back 11 seconds later to cut it to 3-2, and then the rush at the end tied (and almost won) the game.

Now, then. Regarding the penalty in OT that led to the game winning goal. I'd prefer that the referees allow the players to decide the game without the help of whistles once we get to playoff overtime. HOWEVER, the officials had absolutely no choice but to call the fateful penalty. Brothers was tripped in the neutral zone from behind while he was bringing the puck up the ice. Given the way that went, there was no question that there was a penalty call necessary there. From there, in a scrum in front of the net, Brothers then poured in the game-winning goal. I have not seen a replay of anything to review the details of any of this. I'm going with what I saw as the action unfolded in front of my eyes, live and on the spot. And given what happened to us last year at the hands of Smevoll (who worked tonight's game as well, for some strange reason) and Olm, I'm not going to listen to one ****ing peep about any of this.

St. Norbert is next. The mountain simply rises higher and higher.

Re: Adrian Hockey, 2014-2015: The Kids Are All Right.

on our last trip over someone mentioned either italian or mexican restaurants that were good; if you could share info would be great.
thanks - should be one great game Saturday!

Re: Adrian Hockey, 2014-2015: The Kids Are All Right.

Italian - Sauce
Mexican - El Chapulin (aka The Grasshopper)

Both in downtown Adrian, easy to get to, and not that far from the arena (about a couple miles, but it's a straight shot).

Re: Adrian Hockey, 2014-2015: The Kids Are All Right.

Good luck from an SNC fan. You'll need it along with the skills it takes to get this far. Every successful team is also lucky. I wish I could go but its just too far. I'm saving my gas money for a possible Minneapolis trip later in the month. Have a blast, it looks like your year.
