Adrian Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished business

Re: Adrian Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished business

It's very easy to be involved in a chippy game with Point. That's been their m.o. (and their undoing) for a number of years now.

Very interested in Adrian's game next weekend with UAH. To be honest, I think Adrian having lost so recently does not bode well for Huntsville...
I thought that the coaching change @ Point would bring about a different attitude, but not yet, as they are ranked 12th nationally in penalty minutes.
All the time in the box results in too many scoring opportunites for their opponents, esp. the better teams.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished business

As undisiplined as everyone says Point is I just checked the DIII stats to see Adrian only 2 spots behind Point in penalty mins. per game, not exactly a group of choir boys. As far as the second game being chippy what did you expect after Adrian #5 in the country and undefeated got their butts handed to them by the 4th team in the NCHA. It was a good weekend for Point and a reality check for Adrian and I'm with all the offensive talent they have they will give UAH all they can handle.

There were a few examples where better discipline could have helped Point......specifically the needless infractions after the whistle.
I blame officials as much as coaches for allowing situations after the whislte to develope.

Stevens Point have a lot of upside. They came out focused, banging, and when they got the early lead they never looked back in that first game.
That's usually a good reflection on preparation by the coaches.

A minor point to make here (and no pun intended). PIM for the weekend: 29-16-45 for UWSP. Adrian went 10-16-26. 15 minutes of Friday's UWSP's PIMs were on a late CTH major and game misconduct. Take that for what ever it's worth.

Now, I don't think I've made any bones this season about Adrian needing to clean up the unnecessary penalties. I can refer you to comments I made a few weeks ago after we played Concordia, for starters. And I don't think anyone has exactly accused Adrian of being angels, either, at least I hope not. And if they have, well, I don't know what to tell you.

There were a couple plays from UWSP that I did not care for, one of which resulted in a major on Friday night, but nothing I wish to make any issue of. *shrug* There were things that could have escalated on both sides, on both nights, but did not. It was a chippy weekend of hockey. Nothing more, nothing less, and nothing surprising from my vantage point.

Thanks. I'm curious to read GFM's thoughts on the game.

And we've got to get you and more of the Yost crew out here for a game.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished business

Was this an official game or an exhibition?

NCAA rules say that it counts once you've played an official game. I think that's why y'all only played one game here.

Excreting on the ice might have been preferable to how we played.

I'm embarrassed for our program. I don't care that Adrian is a top-shelf D-III program. You don't go up a man early and then two late, especially both being D, and not capitalize no matter the school's classification. That was a terrible performance, but at least I didn't see any joking around in the hallway later. Sad.

I beleive it has to be an exhibition game, same as the NU-Dartmouth one. UAH is a D1 independent in hockey.

You can play exhibition games mid-season - in DIII all games count against schedule limits whether they are exhibition games or not (except for a game against a Canadian team) or one of the NDTs.

It's up to the schools to determine if it is an exhibition game (stats and records don't count) or a regular season game (they do count). In the past some DI - DIII games have been exhibitions and some have been reg seasons games. For example, Buff State and Fredonia vs. Penn State (also a DI independent this year) were regular season games.

That is not my understanding of NCAA rules having spoken with an SID that is a UAH alumnus but not currently employed by the school. The argument mainly came up in regards to our trip to the NIT Tip-Off this year (the first time a D-II school had been invited). We counted the opening round win against North Texas but called the game against K-State the next night an exhibition. That's not the way it's supposed to work. And since you noted that the games count, I think that's what matters.

Division II and III rules are different. The games count against scheduling limits in any case (at least for DIII teams, any time you take the ice against another team (with the noted exceptions) the game count against your quota of 25 games. The question is whether the games are counted in the W-L record and whether the stats count. There is no question that games against ACHA teams and the NDT programs are treated as exhibitions, but I'm not sure what the DIII rule is about games with DI teams - Norwich played at Dartmouth in a exhibition game. I think the agreement to call it an exhibition game had something to do with the way the Ivy League scheduling rules work. (They get fewer games, but apparently the exhibition against NU didn't count against them, and it came before the Ivies were permitted to play reg season games)

CHS has it as "non-conference". As for the 25-games thing, AC was supposed to play us twice but dropped the Saturday game, presumably because of how it would/wouldn't have counted on the Bulldogs' schedule.

GFM <-- doesn't envy the kids coming down and back for one game and then playing on Tuesday.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished business

Both games would have counted towards Adrian's 25 game limit, putting us at 26. That's why we had to drop one of them. Now, whether the game result, and the stats that go with it, count towards our season totals, I'm still unsure. I don't know if we're officially 10-1 or 11-1. *shrug*

I know last year Norwich's NCAA D3 record showed them with only 24 games at the end of the regular season.

"IF" it helps, 3 websites { College Hockey Stats, USCHO, and the MCHA official league site} all have Adrian as playing 12 games, 11-1-0, with all 12 games' stats included in the players overall statistics.:)

You may play 26 games, so long as one of those is an exhibition. I'm going to guess that it was UAH who had no interest in changing it to an exhibition game. If Adrian dropped it rather than count it as an exhibition (assuming UAH would agree to an EX game), then it kind of wasted half the trip.
AS far as the results counting for Adrian in the game played, the stats will count, but I believe the game will be ignored for NCAA selection purposes.
