Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

Great summary -- Kudos to the Bulldogs for taking SNC to the final minute of this game.
Our group, on the Red Line, were very impressed with Adrian's ability to break out of their own zone, especially in the first period.
SNC responsed with a strong forecheck in the early second and scored two quick goals, as a result.
Great effort by both teams:) :) :)

I would like to second Pete's comments. A very impressive and intense game of hockey played by two very good teams. Adrian came out strong but SNC changed their game by forcing Adrian to make mistakes in their own zone in the second. The third was back and forth until Adrian got the third goal and then it was just hang on. I would say that Adrian has been the best team that I have seen at the Stone this year. They certainly would be in the upper echelon of the NCHA. Hopefully the rest of the MCHA can follow their lead. Great season!

Judging from scores I would think they have improved a bit?

Lawrence and Marian gave Adrian good games and MSOE isn't terrible..

Maybe the MCHA isn't such a joke anymore.

The MCHA is improving. Let's not put Marian or Lawrence in the same catagory as Adrian yet. Not even close! Again congrats Adrian on a fine season!

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

How about 1998 when SNC outshot UWSP about 63-17 on Saturday and lost the regular game and the mini game? You guys had some tough ones before finally breaking through, no question...
Thru the power of hypnosis I've officially wiped that one from my record. Unfortunately a side effect of the hypnosis is that every time someone says the name "Gorman" I **** my pants and forget who I am for about 5 minutes. It was rough when we hired a gal with that last name in my department but thankfully she got married this fall.

I just wanted to come here and say congrats to Adrian. They've been almost like a mythical being that so few people really knew what to make of them. They were better than I expected, although I didn't think they'd be a joke by any means. Now they have a real measuring stick and they know they are a legit NCAA tournament team. I expect them to continue to do very well in the MCHA, which is improving overall. I'm happy this game took place, although I would have preferred Saturday. This matchup could be a regular event in the next few years.

Maybe not, but Marian is getting better, and quickly. They went 18-2 in MCHA this year, and I'll give you one good guess as to where those two losses came from. HINT: It wasn't Northland :p. If I had to guess, they may be looking at 18-2 again next year, and as we all know, all bets are off after next season in the MCHA.

And thank you.

Also,

Marian didn't embarrass themselves in their four games against NCHA and MIAC teams. Granted they still went 0-4 but they gave Gustavus Adolphus two tough games and Superior was close too. Stevens Point was the only "blow out".

The first two games against Adrian were pretty big margins of victory but that was way at the beginning of the season too.

They beat Eau Claire as well to open the season.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

No kidding around, great effort by Adrian.

In short, I think the key was Adrian's turnovers when trying to wheel in transition. They played at times as if they had less time than they actually did. Chock it up to a bit of inexperience in these situations.

Aside from that, I'm quite pleased the MCHA showed up to play. Obviously Adrian wanted to win, but they have nothing to hang their heads about.

They'll be back, the league will continue to improve, and hopefully some of the bickering has been put to rest.

Adrian Hockey 2009-10: The Empire Strikes Back?

I couldn't have put it any better myself.

Adrian's a very talented team, and, like others have said, the rest of the MCHA is catching up. Give teams like Marian (18-2 in conference play), Lawrence, Lake Forest (strong freshman class this year), and MSOE (only 4 graduating seniors) a handful of strong recruits in the offseason, and you might be looking at a MIAC-level conference.

Did you get a chance to see Marian this year? I keep hearing raves about the Fitzpatrick kid but unfortunately didn't catch the Sabres in action this season.

I didn't get to see them , but researched their recruits, and followed their results closely throughout the year. Jasen has done a fine job. They are clearly the program that has taken the biggest strides at closing the gap.

The teams joey mentioned are coming along too, but not to the same extent.

We can see now how important it is to have the exposure to intense competition. You need to be challenged to raise your level of play. Until the gap is closed, the current 20 game conference schedule is a disadvantage to these programs that want to be competitive at a high level.

Hammer, thanks for the impartial updates during last night's game.

Never had that trouble with SNC's webcast in the past, but then again I'm sure a lot more people were watching. For the quarterfinal with Gustavus I'm gonna do a NorthernLite, and secure the connection on Friday...

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

I have said it before, give the MCHA a year or two to recruit now that they have the AQ. I think it will really help Lake, Lawrence, MSOE and Marian. Now if Marian keeps the AJHL kids coming, they should be very good, very soon. Congrats again to Adrain and thank you for representing the MCHA so well.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

The Automatic Qualifier is huge for MCHA recruiting now that a young man knows he has a legit shot to play for a National Championship. Before the AQ they had the Pool B in theory, but in reality it wasn't going to go the way of a MCHA team.
