Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

Here's to a good start in the second half!!! Up and down so far....

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

That was............interesting. What could have been a 5-2 loss turned into a 7-5 win as our offense went ham in the 3rd period, pouring in 5 goals. I think we got a little of everything we've done tonight, from falling behind, to taking penalties, to the power play, to the big offense. It's like the whole season got crammed into 60 minutes.

Conference games the rest of the way. Right off the bat we've got MSOE staring us in the face at Arrington. Hopefully all old business is now settled and we can focus on hockey next weekend. After all, the MCHA title might very well be at stake.

I understand that the Buffalo State radio team is made up of students. Fine. No problem. But it was driving me up a wall that they butchered Cousineau's name more than a meat market. It's not that difficult. Coo-zih-no. It's not Cuisinart. We're not making food processors here. At least I hope not.

More tomorrow or Sunday.

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

An open letter to the Adrian College Hockey team:

I don’t know how many of you read these boards, but those of you who do, you know very well who I am. I have had the opportunity and privilege to get to know some of you, and watch you play for the last four years. Mostly it has been an unqualified success. Some nights have been much better than others, but a lot more good than bad. I would not consider myself an expert on the game by any stretch of the imagination, but I have seen, and learned, just enough to get myself in trouble. I’ve also seen more than enough of your play to know when things are going well, and when something is wrong, regardless of what the scoreboard says.

18 of you now have 10 games left in your collegiate careers, plus what ever success you can come up with in this year’s postseason. This season hasn't started quite like we thought it would, and we’ve hit some bumps in the road, but I’m not here to rip you for that. Fine. That’s gonna happen from time to time. However……….

Roughly two months from now, you will play your final game as a team. And just like that, you will walk out of that locker room and you will go your separate ways, likely never to be together as an entire team again. Sure, some of you will talk from time to time, but things will never be the same again. Some of you may play professionally, but some of you will never again play competitive hockey.

I wrote this to give you a message: Do not leave anything to chance. Leave no regrets. Get everything you can out of every second you have on the ice. You have very limited time left in your collegiate careers, and it will be gone before you know it. I’ve been out of college for 14 years now. Very few days go by where I don’t think about it. Do not be sitting there six months from now thinking “Dammit, I should have done this, or that, and things might have been different”. Don’t be wishing you had done something different.

When you play like you are capable, there isn’t a team in this league that can lay a glove on you. The banners are in the rafters to prove it. But we’ve also seen what can happen when you don’t…..

Next year is going to be radically different, but we’ll deal with that when we get there. For most of you, there’s no second chance after this season. This is it. Get everything out of it.

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

It sounds like you might be a frustrated coach with no team,
so maybe a rubber hammer??

The team that is coming to see you this weekend you will enjoy watching.
This team has synergy, skill, and the strength to defeat any team in D-3.
I think by Saturday night they will have earned the respect again of everyone
involved with D-3 Hockey. Hope to see you at the game.

Well said my friend. I hope that the BullDogs take a few minutes to take note of your comments. When we all know and have seen the capabilities & talent level of the team, it would be very disheartening to see them achieve anything less than they have the ability to. The clock is ticking....

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

Adrian pastes Finlandia 6-1. When it's 2-0 just over 2 minutes into the game and 4-0 after 1, and shots end up about 46-16, I think we can use "pastes". The game was not as close as the score indicated.

That's......a bad hockey team in Hancock. No two ways around it. They've got exactly 1 win this year, and that's what they're going to end up with. They're the worst team in the West (and yes, I've seen Concordia). Adrian buried them early and they didn't get up. Finlandia's PP looked somewhat competent at times, but other than that, nothing. Coach McCabe's got his work cut out for him. I wish him the best of luck.

The officials butchered the early, uh, scrum about 3 minutes in. That was as close to an all-out line brawl as you're gonna get, and we saw a 5 for charging the goaltender (that wasn't worthy of a major, IMO), a 2 for interference and a game misconduct to another player (yes, you read that right), punches thrown in multiple scrums, and no fighting majors. It should have been 2 to Finlandia for running Eric Miller in the first place, 2 for Houston for goaltender interference, and at least 1 set of fighting majors, and maybe 2. Instead, what goes on the board is 5 for Houston and 4 for the Finlandia player, whose name escapes me right now. Uh-huh.

Adrian pounds Finlandia again, this time by a final of 9-2.

Nothing else of any real significance to report tonight. Finlandia had more shots and more scoring opportunities, but Adrian knocked them out early again. It was nice to see Adrian finally put together a full weekend, even if it was against the worst team in the West. And yes, I stand by that opinion.

Hammer nice open letter to the team. Having watched every home game and a few away games I totally agree with you, this team has been a joy to watch most nights, other nights I have just scratched my head bc I know how good this team can be. It is going to be a totally different team next year for sure but I am sure that coach Fogarty will reload and have the team competing at a high level next year. Congrats to the seniors and all that they have accomplished in their careers and thank you boys for the exciting hockey over the past few years, lets just go deeper in NCAA's this year, I want to travel to Minnesota in March to watch you play your LAST game then.

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

I had hoped for better results from this group at this stage of the season. They can dominate in a game, but rarely keep the pedal down in consecutive games. Goal production hasn't happened at the same rate as we've been accustomed to. Too often discipline problems interrupt the flow of play.....providing opponents opportunities to create a turning point in their favour. There is no doubt the MCHA is much more competitve overall, and Adrian has played a big part in triggering this improvement. Perhaps I was expecting too much from a team that rarely disappoints, and has delivered so many reasons to celebrate in their first 3 MCHA Championship seasons.

From where I sit, this team hasn't hit full stride. This could be a good thing. Championships aren't won by teams that peak in December and January. The remaining schedule sets up well to build momentum for the playoffs.
The Finlandia series certainly won't be looked on as pivotal, but just may have provided the spark this team needed.

I'm looking forward to making the trip to Adrian to watch the Great Class of 2011, as they continue to build momentum for the home strech.

Congratulations to the Seniors, their families and friends.
Enjoy the special events planned for the final regular season home games.

Heading to the 2 p.m. game today.....cannot believe that it has already been 4 years since the senior class first skated at Arrington. We have enjoyed watching you play and thanks for starting hockey at Adrian with a bang!

Thanks

The Senior Class accounted for all the goals in two victories over Lake Forest.

Emotions ran high following the Saturday game, as the inaugural graduating class and families were honoured on the ice, allowing fans to share the moment, and express their appreciation for a incredible ride.

Any word from the insiders on why the ACHA games were canceled? I know this isn't the ACHA forum, but i wasn't sure how much that board was read.

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

Brad Fogal adds to the list of records set by the class of 2011 with Adrian's win last night.

......."Senior goaltender Brad Fogal had a historical night as he became the NCAA Division III all-time wins leader in net. Fogal made 35 saves in one of his best efforts of the season and is now 88-10-2 in his career. Fogal surpassed Kyle Jones of St. Norbert who played from 2002-2005. Fogal sits eighth in NCAA Division III history in goals against average, 12th in save percentage and fourth in win percentage."

Congratulations Fogs !!!

Congrats to Fogal!

But, one blatant error stick out to me in that paragraph:

Fogal surpassed Kyle Jones of St. Norbert who played from 2002-2005.

...what?
