Is it realistic that they break the attendance record tomorrow with this outdoor game? 5,600, that's a lot of people. I way told tonight that just the M logo seating is 6,000.

Looks like less than 2000 showed. That's too bad. Hope it was an enjoyable event anyway.

It was a GREAT event. Players on both teams had nothing but big smiles on their faces and the fans loved it. Yes, it would have been nice to have more people there but that won't take anything away from those who did attend. Being out on the ice after the game the Adrian players were posing for pictures with fans and soaking up the surroundings. Every player and coach just couldn't say enough about how great of an experience the day was. The Adrian coaches even put on some skates after the game and skated around on the ice.

All in all it was a very special event that those who were there will not forget. Yes there was no record crowd but it's still was an event of the lifetime for players and fans.

A special thanks goes out to Concorda for sharing in this event and helping to make Division III history with it's first outdoor game. Thank you for joining us to make this a very special day.

The number to shoot at for a D III Outdoor attendance record is 1470. Adrian College did everything that anyone could ask for in preparation for this event. As a season ticket holder, I paid an extra $5 for a ride on one of the 8 busses and another $5 for priority seating on the playing field. Before the game there was Coffee and donuts in a heated tent. After the game, the tent was used by fans who had the tailgate dinner for the bargain price of $3. To top things off, the Adrian College staff was there thanking everyone for coming and asking if there was anything more that they could do for us. For all of us who were there I would like to say a BIG thank you to Adrian College. It was a once in a lifetime experience.

.. It was a once in a lifetime experience.

As the "first" DIII outdoor game, that can't be repeated, but I hope similar games become feasible again someday - somewhere

It was great to be there in attendance. I to had priority seating. It was a great experience. And the Adrian College hospitality was awesome.

How is this the first outdoor DIII game when Hobart didn't get an indoor rink (one with 4 walls) until a few years ago?

I was also at the outdoor game and it was and enjoyable experience. We had the priority seating on the field and it seemed that everyone there enjoyed it as well and all the staff from Michigan and Adrian were excellent. The boys all looked like they had fun but playing the night before and early yesterday, along with the bigger rink, they looked tired. Just to bad we have to wait until the new year to watch some more hockey, I hope the Bulldogs can go to Norwich and play a good weekend of hockey. Just mad I cant be there, Go Dogs!

Yes, I've read a number of mentions to this game as being the "first outdoor D3 game." I seem to remember a couple of eastern D3 teams playing in their outdoor rinks as recently as the 90's, including Hobart. I thought Connecticut College also had an outdoor rink relatively recently. Can anyone think of any others?

One thing for sure, it set the record for most empty seats ever at a DIII game :D. In all seriousness, it was a really cool  thing.

It's too bad Oswego or Cortland couldnt have jumped in to
The outdoor game at the Syracuse fairgrounds last year
That is the way it would have to be.

If a big stadium is going to be used, and considerable expense is needed to build the outdoor sheet then D3 teams are an afterthought. The only way it works is if you have two big-time D1 schools playing or NHL/AHL teams as the real draw.

If the Sabres were to play an outdoor game at Ralph Wilson, it would not be a far stretch to see a Fredonia or Buff State game on the ice as well. No way a big stadium makes the ice for just a D3 game alone.
