Ferry ride to Victoria and an afternoon there, if you want to feel like you're in jolly olde England. Sushi in Seattle, and the Japanese garden there. Museum of Flight in Seattle (think a slightly smaller version of the Air & Space Museum.) Olympic Peninsula, if you and the missus like hiking - specifically this place. Salmon (other ocean fish or shellfish) at one of the restaurants right on the water. Mount St. Helens, or Mount Rainier or Baker.

I can't remember that much more off the top of my head - it's been a decade and a half since I've been there. :) Good luck, and enjoy!

Mrs. EoDS and I did Jamaica.

There are some off-resort things we enjoyed while we were there, but let's be honest: that wasn't a very high priority item on our agenda!

Mr les and I were there about the same time BPH was. Agree with Victoria. I lived in England for a bit. Victoria was awesome. Go to tea. YUM!!

We took a cruise/whale watch up Puget Sound. It was beautiful.

Went to Vancouver Island- went to some Gardens which were absolutely stunning. Went over to Olympia- That was awesome..

From what I remember over two visits, Gastown and Chinatown are probably the highlights of Vancouver proper.

Olympic Peninsula is a favorite of mine. Victoria is nice. Take a ferry or boat tour. We were up there this past summer for a couple days. Mt. St. Helens is pretty awesome, though a bit south. Mt. Ranier is also a great place, though it takes a little while to get there. Really, almost anywhere driving through the Cascades is really great. In Seattle, the market is fun. The University of Washington is a beautiful campus to walk around. If you get a chance, have Ivors Fish and Chips. Great local chain.

Anyone ever vacationed in St. Lucia? Seeing some really neat-looking places there for not-crazy money (or at least not-crazy compared to the high-end places that spend enough on marketing to be the first places I came across on Google). Doesn't hurt that JetBlue flies there round trip from JFK.

So it looks like I'm headed to Las Vegas for a few days later this month because of family. I already have a place to stay and a car for while I'm there, so what are some places off the Strip I should check out? I really don't want to look like a tourist while I'm there...

Bellagio, Wynn, Venetian, Mandelay Bay are the casinos with class. Suit up.

From time-to-time, Brent is right. If you don't want to look like a tourist on the Strip, do it at night, in a decent suit. Like the old days.

If you're looking for outright non-touristy things to do in Vegas, uh...good luck. Maybe take the car over to Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, and just enjoy the scenery? I don't think you can get too close to the Dam these days though (stupid terrorists ruining it for everyone).

Bourdain had a Vegas episode, but his non-cliche stuff still involved boozing and gambling, just with the locals/at their bars :p.

What he said, that I am making note of. Old school, baby. Do the town up right. And remember, tipping is everything there.

Hoover Dam and the new bridge. Red Rocks. do the strip, in style or as a tourist, its great either way. ah, ... Las Vegas.

It isn't so bad to look like a tourist if you actually are a tourist.

You're going to a town that thrives and dies with the tourist trade. Looking like a tourist isn't necessarily a bad thing there. Companies like good word-of-mouth advertising that they know you'll take back to MI if you have a good experience with them.
