If I may return the backhanded compliment, you're usually above viewing similar language from both sides and labeling one as "high flown rhetoric" and the other as "lies and exaggerations."

I don't see any lies in Obama's statement -- it's standard "reach for that rainbow" language:

There is no strife, no prejudice, no national conflict in outer space as yet. Its hazards are hostile to us all. Its conquest deserves the best of all mankind, and its opportunity for peaceful cooperation many never come again. But why, some say, the moon? Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask why climb the highest mountain? Why, 35 years ago, fly the Atlantic? Why does Rice play Texas?

We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.

The GOP made some very specific predictions about an Obama presidency: the markets would crash and terrorists would make 9/11 look like a picnic. To date, the only market crash was on the GOP watch; ditto the terrorist attack. Those predictions should be kept in mind when weighing what the GOP says in the future.

The old joke was the Democrats got us out of depressions and into wars and the Republicans got us out of wars and into depressions. Dubya revised it: Republicans get us into both and Dems get us out of both. :)

I don't know, Camo Barbie being that close to occupying the oval office is a legitimate concern.

Agreed, the slim chance of Palin in the Oval was one of the other reasons I voted for Obama. But that doesn't make the hyperbole about McCain croaking in office any less silly - the Senator still alive and kicking.

Eye of the beholder. To me it was the exuberance of not having to wake up every morning to that bunch of cranks and criminals as our Executive branch. When you've just broken out of jail, the air smells extra sweet.
Eye of the beholder exactly. So, you're just more comfortable with your cranks and criminals in the executive branch? I hope to get a breath of fresh air in about a year and a half. This Presidency is more smothering by the day.

Our cranks and criminals have nothing on yours! Name me any Dem Prez as corrupt as Nixon or as disasterous as Bush II. This ought to be good....

I am of course more comfortable with our cranks and criminals than yours. :) And if you do win in 2016, I do not begrudge you the feeling. It is liberating.

But yes, on the 3C list, the Dems haven't been able to exceed Nixon (criminals), Reagan (cranks) or Dubya (cretins) in my lifetime. I'm sure they will eventually, since there is nothing new under the sun, but you guys have really put together a run of sweethearts lately.

I keep hearing about how reaching back to the Reagan era is ancient history, not to mention going back a good bit further to Nixon. and with Bush 2 you're merely left with not liking things he did (certain of which I agree with, others not).

Come now. Bush 2 was a moron and his handlers were sociopaths. That has nothing to do with liking what he did or not.

Ford and Bush Sr. were completely acceptable presidents, and before that Ike was quite a good one. Loathing Dubya isn't partisanship, it's just the power of observation. He will go down as one of the four or five worst presidents in history -- even Carter and Coolidge kick his ass.

I beg to differ on the partisanship of parts of the above statement. But, I don't expect to hear anything different. Really, I think conservatives see Obama's presidency as about as abysmal as liberals saw Bush 2's.

I really can't believe Obama doesn't realize that complaining about how the Reps don't work with him one day and then blasting them every which way the next day in a very partisan way doesn't work well. He doesn't seem to grasp the basics of human relationships, which I thought he at least somewhat did earlier in his presidency. The longer he's President, the less I think he has a clue about such things.

When Obama invents a war that costs 5,000 US troops lives and $2T bucks, let us know, will ya? :rolleyes: Not to mention worst terrorist attack on US soil on his watch and worst financial crisis since Great Depression.

Let me know when Obama blows 2 Trillion on hookers and blow (2 worthless wars) like Bush did. Fiscal conservatives are comical in how much they hate Obama when Obama has been the least expensive President we've had since Nixon.
