Re: 95th Season of Hockey- Michigan Tech Huskies 2015-2016 - Thread #1

So Michigan Tech sits 21st in the PWR right now. To get where they need to be to get an at-large bid to the dance, Michigan Tech will need to get it's RPI up above .5500 for a chance.

If the win out, they get to 0.5475 without any other games getting played. If I add Yale winning out, that only increase to 0.5483. That seems wrong, but thats what CHN says.

The most costly losses this season: Michigan, Alaska-Anchorage (2t), Bowling Green (2t)
Most costly ties: Yale, Michigan State, Minnesota State

As for this coming weekend, there are 3 WCHA series, MTU wants the following to help their RPI/PWR:
BGSU sweep UAA
LSSU sweep MSUM
FSU sweep BSU

EDIT: Obviously, we're also rooting for Yale, Connecticut, Michigan State, and Michigan

I saw that as well. I also caught the highlights of that game where a Michigan player cold cocked an OSU player while the ref had the OSU player pinned to the ice after a little scrap.
Keep it classy Annie Arbor.

Not that any of this will happen, and I didn't figure out the rest of the games but by choosing the winner of every game played by the below 11 teams (I chose BSU to win North Star Cup with MSUM tying SCSU and beating Minnesota) I got Michigan Tech up to 8th with an RPI of 0.5676 so at least we know its possible.
1) MTU
2) NMU
3) LSSU
4) UA_
5) FSU
6) Mi State
7) BGSU
8) BSU
9) UAH
10) MSUM
11) UAA
12) Michigan
13) Yale
14) Connecticut

Not that they matter but MTU is back in the USCHO poll at 17

Also with respect to MTU's RPI/PWR, here are the most important series remaining:
UA_, LSSU, BGSU, BSU, NMU
Losses against BSU/NMU hurt us the least while losses to UA_/LSSU hurt us the most...not all the surprising other than the fact that BGSU is in the middle.

I'll sign it but this deal is getting worse by the minute. Mr Scott, as you might know, is expecting twins. He also is on a two way contract. In other words his salary is going down from the NHL minimum of 575k to the AHL rate of about 70k. It really has been a crummy deal if you are him.
I'll bet dollars to donuts that the trade was engineered by the NHL to prevent him from playing. I heartily regret doing any computer voting and I feel terrible for Mr .Scott.
Certainly the NHL should have stood by it's commitment, but it was foreseeable that they would not.

BTW this deal got 45 minutes of air time on the number 1 Sports radio show in Michigan, this afternoon about 430. A number of Canadian people called in about it. A lot of people are unhappy, but there is no way the NHL is reversing the trade.

Shirtless, did you figure any wins for us in the final 5? Second we should get some help. Besides rooting for some teams to win, I'm rooting for the bubble teams to lose. Minny, PSU, Duluth, RPI, denver. I hope they get bumped out.

obviously the bubble team losses will help...no I did nothing with WCHA Playoffs because CHN's setup doesn't allow that...

As much as we all love to picture Herr Bettman in a smoky backroom hatching this plot, I suspect the Coyotes had far more to do with it. They wanted Max Domi or, if an aging vet had to go to appease the fans, Shane Doan.

Shirtless, it surprises me that BG winning this week is more important to us than Uaa winning.

No one should feel sorry about this other than whoever it was that pulled the trigger on this trade. Since when do NHL teams trade for players and then come out the same day and say "they will never play for us..."
Nice to see that Sports Illustrated and The Hockey News have both picked up the story and sided with the fans/Scott.

Here's the video. Hitting the kid when the ref has him tied up puts Martin on par with Todd Bertuzzi IMO.

Take off the "I hate Maize & Blue" blinders for a moment. Bertuzzi punched a guy from behind who had not engaged. Martin punched a guy in the face, with whom he had already exchanged bear hugs/punches.

While Martin should get a game or two for his actions (especially because the OSU player's head hit the ice), this is not the same thing.

Re: 95th Season of Hockey- Michigan Tech Huskies 2015-2016 - Thread #1

I disagree - He violated "The Code".
My ruling: Martin is banned from hockey. Michigan forfeits all games this season. Red is forced to retire for being really old and not having control of his team.

I think Tech needs to be the shining knight who rides in and puts a positive spin on this whole John Scott issue.
Tech needs to name him as an honarary captain for an even bigger tourney, one way more important than that piddley little NHL weekend.

Hey NHL fans! Come see John Scott as he was meant to be seen, having fun playing 3 on 3 hockey.
Don't sit on the sidelines like Sidney Crosby, get your team together and sign up today.
I nominate for "Team PIMs": John Scott "C", Randy McKay, Andy Sutton and Darcy Martini

So Mike Tirico of ESPN tweets out how he went to the michigan/OSU game at Yost last night and he hasn't been to college hockey in a while. Then he says how good Yost looks. Yost?... look good. ? Man this guy is smoking something.
I will admit the bathrooms are semi nice.... and they do have this massive scoreboard, but really.....plus terrible game if you are showcasing college hockey. Disgraceful.

Well, if he hasn't been to a college hockey game in a while, maybe he remembers all the old arenas. Depends on how long he's been away, you know?

Certainly, but Yost was fine, even with the improvements, in 1975 or 1980, now days having aluminum bench seating for the majority of the fans is less than good. And the concourse is so narrow that when I go I try to avoid it completely. There's also the minimum parking, etc etc. They did renovate the press area so maybe he's talking about that. who knows.

I went and looked at the schedules of the teams we have to beat out to get in. Several of them have very tough games coming up. Duluth may not finish above 500, penn state has it tough, rpi as well. We could use Denver to lose several. it's going to go down to the very end I think.
I wonder what people think of this latest UNLV proposal and btw. ASU, if they had money for a rink they would not be trying to share with the coyotes on a new one.
