I disagree - He violated "The Code".
My ruling: Martin is banned from hockey. Michigan forfeits all games this season. Red is forced to retire for being really old and not having control of his team.

I would agree except Tech needs them to win all of their games to help their pairwise ranking :)

Michigan winning doesn't really help us, because we played them once and lost. Michigan State is far more important since we played them 3 times, and beat didn't lose. Yale is also more important since we tied them.

My takeaways from the Mel P show:

Heinonen is going to Green Bay today (Tuesday) to see Packers orthopedic guy - result can be anything from he'll play against BGSU to his season is done.
Back luck for him - 3 on 0 rush in practice - caught a rut when stopping and goes into the boards.

Mel's take on John Scott - saw him in AZ. He was looking forward to it. NHL put this voting system in place and it's unfortunate and doesn't look good with this trade happening. Hope the players union steps. NHL should've used this as a marketing/PR thing for the game with Scott playing.

Finally - Mel said his wife loves the snow/cross country skiing and is looking forward to getting back from Atlanta after visiting family.

Central Scouting released its midterm rankings. No current players or committed recruits made the list but there are nine players that are currently uncommitted that could be of interest to Michigan Tech:

Colin Grannary (F-Merritt, BCHL) - plays with Gavin Gould
Walker Duehr (F-Tri-City, USHL) - plays for Billy Muckalt
Yushiroh Hirano (F-Youngstown, USHL) - plays for Youngstown Assistant Brad Patterson [nevermind not college eligible]
Billy Jerry (F-St. Thomas, MN HS)
Jack Jeffers (F-Orangeville, OJHL)
Tyler Jette (D-Farmington, MN HS)
Wyatt Aamodt (D-Hermantown, MN HS)
Dean Stewart (D-Portage, MJHL)
James Greenway (D-USNDPT, USHL)

The first 3 really intrigue me. None of these players are ranked very high on the rankings (all ranked 125 or lower), but any of those 3 forwards could be possible replacements for Brett Boeing with his early departure.

Captain John Scott will get to keep is spot in the NHL All-Star Game:

I think the NHL made the right decision here. Better PR move, plus Big John will win the hardest shot competition. That said, he does have his detractors and I'm sure they'll point out anytime he looks slow or makes a bad decision during the game. I bet the other guys try to get John to stage a mock fight during the game. 100% chance they mention that he played college at MTU and has an engineering degree.

Why is Tech's or really the whole WCHA's streaming so bad, even the "HD" stream is pretty low quality. I only am thinking of this now because I was just watching the highlights from Saturday's game on YouTube and holy crap is the video immaculate, infinitely better than the live stream. I know I have the bandwidth to handle full 1080P HD streaming of the games, I have a 200 Mbps connection and I would love to have the games be the same quality streamed as they are on YouTube.

We've been over this before. My understanding is that it has to do with the bandwidth output at the arena, and the amount of demand on that bandwidth during live games, because the feed on the TVs in the building/suites is supposedly HD. It's when they broadcast it out of the building that it gets compressed.

Not much of an excuse is it though? The question is who's fault is it and what would cost to fix that problem...

Re: 95th Season of Hockey- Michigan Tech Huskies 2015-2016 - Thread #1

It's not an excuse at all, all that should be needed out of the building is the bandwidth to support 1 single HD feed, that feed should then go to Stretch who should be using AWS or some similar high bandwidth host to provide the stream to everyone who wants to watch. If they're not doing it this way they should be flogged then tarred and feathered. Any competent provider should be doing it this way and at a school like Tech they should have more than enough bandwidth to do it, heck, set up a Charter Business cable modem at the JMSIA with the bandwidth to support it, no matter what it's a joke that the feed is as poor as it is.

Re: 95th Season of Hockey- Michigan Tech Huskies 2015-2016 - Thread #1

If only they had some "Technical" people near the JMSIA who could help them troubleshoot the problem and get it fixed... you know some EE, CS, maybe even a CivE if they want to knock a hole in the wall for the giant bandwidth cable... Too bad Tech lacks those kind of folks.

I wonder how many tickets for crap games against CC, Miami, WMU, etc we'll have to buy as part of the "Icebreaker Package"...
Ryan J

I'm more interested in knowing how many tickets will be available after season tickets. I can't imagine how much I'd have to pay on the street for Union vs MTU since its the same ticket as Minnesota vs UMD.

Right now, I'm afraid that the answer is "WCHA.tv brings in a decent chunk of money, but not enough to pay for infrastructure upgrades at all member schools."

But it is hard to believe that infrastructure at a university like Michigan Tech is a major problem?

Knowing general funding in higher ed, yeah. Why the schools aren't bootstrapping this, I don't know.

I can understand maybe trying to get data on usage and increasing quality at a specific university and seeing if it shows increased value maybe?
But I feel like this is a chicken/egg debate. If we provide a better product more people should come and waiting does nothing but scare away potential customers...especially with all the problems they've had the last 3 years.
