Re: 95th Season of Hockey- Michigan Tech Huskies 2015-2016 - Thread #1

I streamed the recording of the Mel Pearson Show this morning on the way to work.

This could be a peak at the right time of the year type of team.
Shuchuk was the main guest with Dirk, Coach answered questions from the phone in Minneapolis, from what I gathered while dealing with idiots on the road.
Both coaches are really high on this team. They feel this team has the potential to be better than last year's team.
More depth, more experience, just as much skill, but a truck load of untapped potential that they are working with the players to unleash.

I hope they are right. We need to get better every week to get back to the Tourney.

My guess is Tech will need to win the WCHA Tourney to make the real Tourney this year...they've got too many losses this early in the season already....

Time to give Jamie a break too, would not be surprised if Kero is between the pipes tomorrow.

It's shaping up to be the case for BGSU as well. MSU is inching closer, but I think their non-conference play will ultimately keep them from getting an at-large appearance.

I don't think so, but we have to win most, if not all of our non conference games, including beating u conn and yale out west, and at least split the two big in conference series. I think we will most likely lose or split several more in conference series going forward. I think it's a matter of focus and we just don't seem to have it even on our good games.

I would have played the other guys last night rather than tonight. those guys didn't make the trip and they had fresh legs. I'd like to see Steman and Jackson together with maybe Sturos. I think that would be a great line.
I watched the Nmu game last night and Huntsville deserved better. I didn't think the penalty shot was deserved and Huntsville outplayed them for long periods.

I'm still trying to decide which of the three turnovers that led to NMU goals was worst.

What happened with Tech? UAA is playing like we thought they might from their 13-14 results.

Well Jamie is out, but Wintjes is in the net. It has always been my understanding that Kero is a distant 3rd string goalie. Wintjes got all the mop up duty last year and first chance for his new mask to get a start for the Huskies.

I don't know if he's distant third but he is currently 3rd

Re: 95th Season of Hockey- Michigan Tech Huskies 2015-2016 - Thread #1

I doubt he's "distant". He had excellent BCHL numbers for such a high-octane offensive league, and a lot of goalies have progressed under Shawhan's tutelage.

Face it, we're just not that good.

Hope they find a spark between now and January, or else this is just another average season.

Argh, swept by UAA at home would be bad, but looks like it's going to happen.

Agreed, hard to see this after last season's performance. No way we make NCAA this year. We look so much slower and more lethargic on every single play and shift this year than we did last year. Last year the only team that made us look slow or lethargic at any point in the season was Mankato, this year pretty much every team is doing it.

And yup, we're a very middling team this year, just a middle of the road probably ~.500 finish team. Le sigh.

You know, it's hard to say this letdown wasn't coming. They probably should've lost at least one game to MSU, but pulled a W-T out of their butts.

Especially swept at home with 3rd period leads both nights. Pathetic from a team with this level of talent.

Definitely, i think this weekend may be a turning point, in the wrong direction, especially considering we may have just given up any opportunity at the MacNaughton already.

Oh, we almost certainly just blew any shot at Mr. MacNaughton's trophy. Not without running the table, anyway.

Maybe it's time to put the boys in motel rooms the nights before home games. They need to get into the road mentality even in Hoton.

It was simple this weekend, Tech got out worked. UAA played a in your face style and took away time and space. Their forechecking was impressive,
I am not readybtomabandon ship, but must get back to the hard work required to win at this level.
Boeing, Heinonen, and Petan were great tonight.
