The CHN App has the score wrong. I thought Tech lost until I just checked the thread.

I agree, probably should've been two Ls, but stole a W-T. Defense needs to shore up.

With the shootout being just for practice, I wonder if the PBP guy and fans in the arena knew, a lot of excitement for that.
I was thinking that the shootout at least gives you practice in alone on the goalie. Given the number of grade A in on the goalie alone opportunities we have had, vs the total lack of success, maybe we ought to practice it more.
I had several fans tell me they felt sorry we lost, at which point I corrected them. Including Tech fans. One MSU fan shook my hand and told me we were the better team and deserved to win.
I want to point out. Tech played outstanding at times, dominating possession for long periods.
Shirtless is right, too often we get on the wrong side of the puck and our back checking can be better. Ex. Last year we had players catching up to their men from behind and stealing the puck. I haven't seen that once this year.

The CHN app relies on arena reporters. Whichever lofo MSU guy running the box score at Munn probably though the shootout "win" counted.

This. CHN is notoriously bad with live scores and this is why.

Agree 100%.

Don't think it's due to lack of effort because they're skating hard every night. Hopefully, they have a couple guys figure it out and start setting that example for the team.

The changes at Munn are pretty positive, but the lighting is really cold now.
They didn't plow the parking lot though and it took me well over 2 hours to get there.
Photographer transation = Really awesome, bright lighting which produces pretty nice images.
The more rinks I visit, the more I appreciate the JMSIA. Munn is another "big campus, small atmosphere" type rink. Same four cheers every period, no free thinkers in the crowd, and most fans just sit on their hands except for the overly obvious times to cheer (goal, jumbotron tells you to yell, bad penalty). For a school that size, the student section was a joke and to be in Lansing and not be able to pack that rink doesn't say much for the general public. Not hard to see why the BiG conference championship was a flop in Detroit if the fans won't even come out to their own rink. I'm not claiming Tech has better attendance in Houghton, but based on the population size to attendance... MSU isn't even close to Tech. There had to have been easily 700-800 Tech fans a night at Munn this weekend.
96 wasn't great, bout 40-50 mph, 2 accidents and 2 slide offs in my 6 mile drive
Having "enjoyed" the blizzard all the way from Detroit to Lansing late Saturday evening, I really don't miss driving in the Midwest at all. With a heavier vehicle or a front wheel drive car, 45-50 was a reasonable speed. But as usual there were folks on the Interstate doing 25-30 and it backed up traffic for a mile so that everyone could get around one car. If you're not comfortable with what 4-6" of wet slop does to your car, it would be best to just keep the car in the garage rather than trying to struggle along at half the speed of everyone else.

What kills me about the goals allowed is how much of last year's defense we returned. We lost one guy on D, and returned loads of experience, and a touted redshirt recruit.
This is also surprising to me. IMO, Tech has given up a lot of soft goals. Seems like at least once a game, Jamie is looking at the roof wondering why he didn't stop that one. On the upside, with that many bad goals going in, there is plenty of room for improvement.

The first 5-7 seven minutes of Friday is how I wish we could see Tech play for 60 minutes. Tech DOMINATED the early portion of the Friday, got the first goal and had a few more chances that they didn't bury. I would be nice for Tech to smell blood in the water at that point and just put the other team down 2-3 goals. However, State got the next goal and it was almost like flipping a switch and Tech didn't get it going again until early in the 3rd period. It was enough to get the win and a tie, but it would be nice to see them put an entire game together and just blow the doors of someone and show themselves just how good they can be.

I didn't have any big takeaways from today's Mel Pearson show.

Team will fly Chicago to Seattle and Seattle to Fairbanks today.

With it being non-conference game over a holiday all 28 players were in East Lansing.
Taking 23 to AK, sending 5 back to Houghton, some will head home for Thanksgiving.
Could take 24 to AK, but taking 23. Will be typical travel roster, 1 extra D, 1 extra F but also will bring all three goalies due to all of the upcoming practices.
Jake Jackson wont be on trip, minor shoulder still, should be okay for Anchorage.
Can't say much on recruits, all NLIs in except one. Working on announcement.

Blue blood schools whining again. Totally, 100% agree with what Walt Kyle is saying

http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2015/11/24_big_ten_legislation_raises.php

For perspective with MTU,
We have 3 current players who were 21 on October 1 of their freshman year, Max Vallis, Patrick Anderson and Reid Sturos. Mason Blacklock and Evan Anderson were 21 before October 1 of this year but they're redshirt freshman...wonder how they would be treated under the new rule. There is a question Brett Boeing's birth year so he might fall under this category as well...

In many respects, this argument began 50 years ago, and unsurprisingly it's Minnesota leading the "puritanical" charge again. If they thought they could ban the Canadian players you know they would propose that too, but since that's unpopular outside MN and there would probably be lawsuits about that nowadays, they're just going to target the age group.

If you can't beat 'em, change the rules. And sadly, the B1G will probably win this time given the makeup of the voters.

Well it's about money of course.
Wouldn't kids who get legislated out of a year be able to sue for restraint of trade, or some such, because really their rights are being infringed.

Keaton Pehrson, junior defenseman for Lakeville North, played in the elite league this fall, looks to be a get. Great program that plays a good schedule.

Here's an article I found on the latest commit Keaton Pehrson.
http://nickakelly.com/2015/11/25/lakeville-north-d-pehrson-commits-to-michigan-tech/

Lakeville North D Pehrson commits to Michigan Tech

The Lakeville North boys’ hockey team gained a Division-I defenseman on Tuesday night, but he already held a spot on the Panthers’ roster.

Keaton Pehrson, a junior defender, announced his verbal commitment to play college hockey at Michigan Tech University on Tuesday night. The Huskies are a Division-I men’s hockey team in the Western College Hockey Association.

Michigan Tech coaches watched Pehrson in elite league this fall, and offered Pehrson just over a week ago.

After visiting campus multiple times and watching a game, Pehrson made the decision to commit to play for the Huskies.

“It just felt right,” he said. “I wanted to get it out of the way so it wouldn’t be a distraction during the year.”

College coaches didn’t get much of an opportunity to watch Pehrson during Lakeville North’s 31-0 state championship run in 2014-2015 because he rotated in and out of the fifth and sixth defenseman position in the lineup.

It wasn’t because of lack of ability from Pehrson, though.

The talent above him was just that good.

Jack Sadek, Angelo Altavilla, Jack McNeely and Luke Seper held the top four defenseman spots last season. Sadek is now at the University of Minnesota and was drafted by the Minnesota Wild this past summer. Altavilla, who likely could have played collegiate hockey, is at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he will play Divison-I baseball in the spring. McNeely is at the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he is playing for the men’s hockey team. Seper is playing in juniors.

Although Pehrson didn’t play much, he gained valuable experience playing with the 2014-2015 defenseman.

“Without getting to play a lot, I was still at the practices and got to learn stuff from those great defenseman,” Pehrson said.

Goaltender Ryan Edquist also won’t return in 2015-2016 as he now plays for the Madison Capitols of the USHL. Even though Edquist had one of the top season’s of any goaltender in the state of Minnesota in 2014-2015, it didn’t start out that way—Edquist gave up five goals in the opener and appeared nervous.

With Matt Foss, a senior goaltender who moved from Northfield, now in net, Pehrson wants to make sure the new net minder isn’t nervous come the season opener against Stillwater, similar to how nervous Edquist was in last season’s opener.

“Something we will have to do with our goalie this year is tell him he needs to stay calm in the net and make a few good saves and let the game come to him,” Pehrson said.

Although there are some nerves, Pehrson is excited to get more ice time for Lakeville North this season after experiencing the team’s success in 2014-2015.

“I want to be part of that again,” Pehrson said.

Any of you Tech folks making the trip up? If so, leave our Charles Bunnell statue alone! ;)

I posted a few thoughts on the series over at the Alaska season thread if any of you care to read. Cliff notes version, if the Nanooks are to win this weekend we need to beat you 5 on 5 and stay out of the box.

I know, that's some real in-depth analysis.

Hahahaha. I'm still amazed it fit so well! Unfortunately we are hosting thanksgiving dinner so there was no chance this year for the trip. :( I'll be waking up the inlaws yelling at the PC after they go to bed :)
