I finally listened to the Mel P show podcast.

Justifiably, Mel was still upset about the call. If it takes that long to review, it can't be that obvious to overturn a call. Disappointing. Mel said a NHL Asst. GM had texted that these refs should be suspended.

It was also interesting to hear Mel questioning Hanna's 17 min in penalties, when he only had 21 all of last year.

If Steman is back in 2-3 weeks as Mel said, that will help.

That sucks if he said 2-3 weeks on this week's show.
4 weeks ago he said 4-6 weeks so its definitely on the high end and beyond of what they thought.

Mitch Reinke (recruit expected in Houghton Fall 2016) was announced as a member of the USA Jr Select team that will represent USA in the World Jr A Challenge.

He was on the team last year and should be a leader on the team this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two of his future teammates from Canada on the team this year.

Well he earned the 5 on the spearing call this past weekend (awful, selfish penalty to take, after the whistle no less) and when you get a 10 you've usually earned that as well (also after the whistle). Rarely anything that happens after the whistle is going to help your team. If it was a bunch of minor penalties that wouldn't be a big deal in my opinion. Those are 50% accurate at best in most games, 5 and 10 minutes versions are usually pretty clear cut. So take 15 away from 21 and he has a very reasonable total of 6 PIMS. Most of his time in the box could have been prevented with some self control. Considering BGSU scored two goals during his major, it was a turning point in the game.

On a side note, you guys have an AWESOME arena and a great fanbase and town. I was happy I decided to make the 12 hour drive. I loved every bit of it. Even got a nice Tech hockey shirt from Images before we left. I wish BG had a place like that to play hockey. Truly awesome. Thanks for being great hosts!

*Oh, and the replay they were showing in the press box was pretty clear, according to the WCHA official, for whatever thats worth.

I really wonder what replay they could have had that MTU would not have to provide in highlights? or that Mel could not see himself?

Not sure. I was at ice level shooting photos. Its just what I heard from press in the box when I went back up after the period was over.

As for your other comments, thanks. We know and love our arena. It has gone through many facelifts since I started attending in the 90s. You probably wouldn't even recognize it compared to what it looks like today with the new seats, fresh coat of paint, the new entrances and the suites.

The suites were awesome. Definitely a nice touch.

I hope you were able to go to Dee stadium in downtown Houghton and see the museum of old hockey related stuff from the 1800's. It's really worth going to.

Yeah, we lived with BGSU colors and a low-def / low tech scoreboard in the rink for several decades... In the 70s, Tech was known to control play for entire periods at a time. Their dominance was such that the facilities group would install overflow seating in Tech's defensive zone during games.

As a reminder, this weekends games are on Comcast in MI and if you get Big Ten Network through your cable provider they should be on BTN2go.

I get those calls on a regular basis. It's not a fun thing.

Thankfully my crappy hours don't begin until I certify, which should happen tomorrow. Then I work 12 midnight shifts next month. Oh well, the view on the monitors is nice.
