#9 UW @ #5 tUMD 1/14 and 1/15

Re: #9 UW @ #5 tUMD 1/14 and 1/15

I think this weekends series should be decided between Eaves and Crandall duking it out at center ice.

Still, it is shorthand for Minnesota Duluth or UMD. You won't see me calling us Duluth. Pet peeve of mine.
To each his own, doesn't bug me at all. I'm a little surprised it bugs you, since most UMD fans seem to want to distance themselves from the Twin Cities campus, and calling UMD "Duluth" would be one way to do that.

So what jerseys will Duluth wear this weekend?

Regular Whites. I loved the new jersey, but after the way we played in it and the public outcry of just being called Duluth, we probably wont wear the jersey again all year.

Attended this game. Bulldogs played decent, but not great. Badgers looked kinda flat and uninspired. Bulldogs did a good job not giving Bucky much space and clearing the defensive zone. After Eaves goes Eaves on the team, I expect Bucky to come out with a little better effort on Sat. Easy button for Kenny as Bucky never really tested him.

Flat and uninspired is exactly how I would describe Wisconsin's play tonight.

Which is why I said at the beginning of the thread they aren't a #9 team...they might have the talent, but they have yet to perform real well against a good team. They don't have a win against a top 20 team. If you count the "Others Receiving Votes," the best team they've beaten is Minnesota at #27 (and I would argue they are probably better than #27, but I digress...). They are 0-7-2 versus top 20 teams (and UW averages 3.48 GPG - 2.22 GPG versus the top 20).

From what I've seen, their offense just gets shut down by decent teams when they're needed. The NoDak and Duluth games have all basically been the same - low shot totals with little sustained offensive pressure (other than PPs). For the most part Goody is keeping them in games, but they just show no heart in the offensive zone.

Also, the PK sucks. :o

I was surprised on how chippy the game was last night. We'll see how that carries into tonight :D

Re: #9 UW @ #5 tUMD 1/14 and 1/15

I thought it was a great effort by UMD last night. The Dogs took advantage of the powerplays in the first and did a great job of limiting the number of quality chances UW had.

There was a little pushing and shoving right at the end of the game. The officals were at the score table for a while after the teams left the ice, but nothing was ever announced if any penalties were handed out. Was there anything called that would impact the rosters for tonight's game?

Dave is right, tUMD had a great effort..just very workmanlike. I love the W, but not alot of great execution or were they flying up and down the rink. Reiter said in the Duluth newspaper, “The last two shifts of the game showed the kind of effort we had – we were relentless and grinded out a win.” I think grinded out a win sums up the game for tUMD.

Aside from the usual stars for tUMD, Keegan Flaherty and David Grun looked good. Another guy that they need in the lineup is Wade Bergman. He takes cares of the puck and along with Justin Faulk, is tUMD's best puck rushing defenseman.

If Tom Hansen was to be believed, there were still tix for last night and tonight. Might try to pick some up when I head over to the East/Eden Prairie game this afternoon.

Well, that was mostly craptacular. I think its time we give the sweet 'Duluth' jerseys another shot! :)
