#8 Merrimack / #12 Maine @ #7 UML -- Feb 10/11

Re: #8 Merrimack / #12 Maine @ #7 UML -- Feb 10/11

Great win tonight. 1st place? Are you kidding me!!!

I listened to Bob and would like to know, from people who watched the game, if the Mack goal that was waived off and the Lowell goal which stood up were legit calls.

Sounded like a great night at the Tsongas. Bring on Maine!

Re: #8 Merrimack / #12 Maine @ #7 UML -- Feb 10/11

If I drive down from Maine will I be able to get tickets for the game at the door? Do they usually sell out??

FWIW I tried about 7 different sections on the Lowell ticket Web site on Thursday and it was giving me Row 1 seats in all of them. So I'd guess there should be some empty seats...

Re: #8 Merrimack / #12 Maine @ #7 UML -- Feb 10/11

Congrats to UML on the win and 1st place. MC's offensive struggles continue (due in no small part to Carr I imagine). Would love to read an objective analysis (John_Fuller, UMLfan) (and any comments on the overturned/allowed goals as commented on above) Seems to be the case a lot this year (MC waved off @ BC in OT, Maine waved off at MC with about 20 tics remaining). Hey, maybe both Valley teams can get into the top 4.

Merrimack's disallowed goal was clearly hit with a high stick. I'm not sure why the referee initially waved off Lowell's
goal and what he thought he saw. Arnold got a piece of the puck and it dribbled across the line. From my view, there
was nothing bad about it.

Thanks for that gochiefs.

I will be dragging my girlfriend to the game tomorrow night. As long as we go to Beer Works she will be good lol

Due to work commitments and a lot of Friday night games I gave up season tickets this year. How bad of a move was that?

With the overturned call that gave Lowell its first goal: the ref signaled that theLowell player pushed it into the net with his hand. Replay from the above angle must have proved otherwise.

Cannata had an amazing game. Would've been 2-0 Lowell in the first if not for some crazy saves.

Re: #8 Merrimack / #12 Maine @ #7 UML -- Feb 10/11

Without question, I think that had to be the greatest regular-season game in the history of the Tsongas Arena. Tonight was the first battle in a three-part war. For the first 40:00 minutes, the Carr vs. Cannata fight was legendary and while Cannata was beat twice tonight, by no means should that diminsh his performance. In fact, if it wasn't for him, it would have been a lot worse.

I can not make any comments on the reviews tonight as it happened at the far end of the ice. There was no question the puck was tipped by a Merrimack player. Bunyan was signaling goal and Carr calmly look at him with the expression "Really". As far as the Lowell goal, again I did not know why the original ruling was made but the Lowell players had no doubt that it was a legit goal.

While there were oodles of chances on both sides of the coin, the key play of the game was Stollery clearly running Holmstrom into the boards with the number 12 looking Stollery right in the eyes. As a senior leader and one of the best defensemen in Hockey East, the momentary lapse of judgement cost his team the game. Lowell wins a faceoff a quick pass and Arnold beat Cannata who had no chance on the second goal and was the backbreaker. Stollery simply has to make a better decision than that.

Again, Lowell is getting fortunate at the end of games. Sooner or later, this new habit of taking penalties is going to bite them.

Carr immediately put his stick above his head after the puck went into the net. I agree about the Lowell goal, it looked good live. I'm not sure what Low thought he saw. They took their time looking at both goals so I assume they got them right.

Things got pretty chippy at the end of the game. That was a real cheap shot by Collins on Eiserman after the horn. I wish the officials would have given him a DQ along with the 5:00 cross checking major. There's no place for that stuff. Kamrass was out 6 weeks this season on the same type of hit.

At this point, there's no objective analysis I can make. I'm just thrilled where Lowell is. Tomorrow... or at some point, we can discuss.

Cannata was the difference from this being 9-0 to what it was. He's pretty **** good.

Agreed. What a game.

I have to think that Bates trying to fight that 3 Lowell players walking out of the box after that game... two weekends from now that pansy will get his coming. Personally speaking, he cross checked Eiserman with no time left, got pulled out of the scrum, and then decided to stand in front of the UML penalty box and taunt the three Lowell players stepping out. I'm sure there are a bunch of players that will remember that.

I originally thought it was Bates that hit Eiserman, but Collins got the Cross Checking major in the boxscore so I figured I missed it. So either the official got the wrong guy or Collins cross checked someone else. It hard to believe Bates got away with that cheap shot.

From hockey writer Scott McLaughlin's twitter.
Shawn Bates just ran straight through the back of Will Eiserman at the buzzer. Bates should be suspended, no questions asked.

I hear now that the puck went off his shoulder and then into the net. It was waved off originally because the ref thought Arnold hit it in with his hand. Great win for Lowell and lets keep it going tonight.

It also wasn't a 'run on the goalie' situation as someone I was with mentioned it might be last night. Arnold tripped over the leg of one MC defender (note - he was not 'tripped' by the player) and then fell into another MC player and hit Cannata's leg after that which caused him to fall.

Nice job by officials.

Not sure if anyone noticed but there were two monitors in the scorekeepers box that the officials used to review the goals. The first was the standard HE system that has the center ice cam plus the two overhead crease cams. The second is tied into the arena camera system that allows for a center-ice cam, the wide cam from section 109 that is to the right of the UML net, and the ice level cam that is focused on the goal that UML is shooting at. Who knows what the final outcome would have been had the officials not had all those camera angles to review. Congrats to the arena staff and UML for having the necessary tools to get the calls right.

Have to say ... it's nice to know I remembered it correctly.

There's no doubt in my mind that I saw a great hockey game last night with two very good programs. Now, Lowell has to do it again tonight against a p-o'd Maine squad.

Re: #8 Merrimack / #12 Maine @ #7 UML -- Feb 10/11

Is it 7pm yet? Pls? Would love to see us win tonight and I'm not entirely sure what I want more, to extend the lead in 1st or to sweep Maine.

If you're conflicted ... a win gives us both those options. So, let's just go with that! :)
