#8 Merrimack / #12 Maine @ #7 UML -- Feb 10/11

Re: #8 Merrimack / #12 Maine @ #7 UML -- Feb 10/11

No matter what happens tonight, last night's victory proved that we belong in the top tier of Hockey East. Tonight's game will give us a good indication on whether or not Lowell is NCAA-ready against a desperate Maine team that absolutely needs to win this game by all costs. Forgot the talk about the Maine sweep, it's pure math. A Lowell win would put Maine six points out of first place. With only five to play for the Black Bears and Lowell having a game in hand, a loss would make Maine's chance of winning the RS crown remote at best. In addition, it would move Lowell's magic number of clinching home ice from 11 to 4 and making a return trip to Maine all but improbable. Because the season series is decided, Lowell by far has the advantage in this game. This is going to be a grudge match to the end. Make no mistake, this is a major game for how the HE standing will end up with UNH/Merrimack being a close second. The atmosphere was awesome last night....let's see if we can't get the official attendance to to 6000 tonight.

Hands down one of the most thrilling, edge-of-the-seat games I've ever seen a Lowell team play. Comes near to surpassing the BU sweep game at Tsongas several years ago in terms of sheer crowd energy also. Been waiting 28 years for this and hope it doesn't come crashing down with some sort of nonsense (no French players and no Olympics, check; no Falco, check; etc.).

Must have been the vintage 1981-82 Chief's jersey that did it! :)

I get what you're laying down here, but Maine's first concern has to be home ice. If Maine is even thinking first place possibilities, well, something is wrond with that. Maine will not catch Lowell. In fact, I think Maine's only hope for fourth is to pass Mack. And I think Mack is a better team then Maine, but there inability to score goals is Maine's best shot at home-ice. No home ice for Maine, no trip to the Garden. No trip to the Garden, no invite to the tourney. Maine NEEDS home ice. All just my opinion of course.

Haven't any you are the committee simulations....but if 5 hockey east teams go to the NCAAs then by definition 1 that doesn't go tothe Garden has to get in.

I think Chripy is saying that he doesn't think Maine will still be eligible if they don't make it to the Garden. The higher ranked teams could theoretically still make the NCAAs even if they lose in the 1st round.

It also wasn't a 'run on the goalie' situation as someone I was with mentioned it might be last night. Arnold tripped over the leg of one MC defender (note - he was not 'tripped' by the player) and then fell into another MC player and hit Cannata's leg after that which caused him to fall.

Nice job by officials.

Yup, no problem with that goal. Arnold drove the net hard and got a good bounce. Should have had another one on that egregious (just wanted to use that word) give away by the 'Mack d right in the middle of their defensive end. Canatta with an outrageous kick save. Surprised a bit on Arnold's second goal. No screen. Just a great shot? (like Atkinson's one-time bomb in the HE finals last year)?

That's the second time in just a week that Lowell has scored one off the face off. Same line both times.

A chance tonight for Lowell to build themselves a tiny bit of cushion in HE. A chance to sweep the season series over Maine. A chance to keep the home winning streak going. This is so much fun!

For any Maine fans coming down, stop by the Lowell BeerWorks and say hi! I'll be at the bar with a red Lowell sweater on.
