$5 Gas... It's De-Ja-Vu All Over Again...

Evolve out. We created war so the most aggressive, patriotic, authoritarian genes would be removed from the pool before they could spread.

It was working. But then we extended war to murdering pacific civilian populations, which RUINS THE WHOLE IDEA.

We need to bring back mass standing armies of the rural poor that grind each other into dust. Balance the forces so the war just continues forever with neither side achieving any gains. A dozen generations of that and we could start seeing a change in the species for the better.

Europe from Marlborough thru Zhukov?

You think he cares? Seriously?

When people tell you who they are, believe them!

One of the flaws of liberal tolerance is continuing to turn the other cheek. American conservatives in their current incarnation are the enemy of civilization. Full stop. Cease believing they can become better; they neither can nor do they wish to. They are comfortable with what they are. Our failure to accept that is denial and weakness.

The Right embraced becoming a monster. It fed the monster that had been trapped inside them by the improvement of humanity. Now they are free, and their freedom constitutes the coercion of others to a model of humanity that is as brutal as they are. That is what we are dealing with. You have to understand what you are fighting, because it sure understands that as long as we hesitate they will continue to overwhelm us.

Nothing says Good has to win -- Obama was completely wrong about the arc of the moral universe. There is no magic. Evil wins frequently unless fought with intelligence and complete awareness.

Pax Britannica ruined everything, and the halt of Western evolution probably dates from that. Europe was in near constant warfare from approximately 800 to 1800. We got a lot of good genetic work done during that time. But I don't see any way to specifically target idiotic aggros for early death anym--- never mind, as you were.

People need to understand that one of the only things keeping conservatives in line, 20 years ago, was the concern of political revolt if their decisions were too extreme. Now, they don't fear that at all. They think the opposition is too weak. They're going to keep doing this.

The Hapsburgs sort of agree/disagree with that. :)

Did $5 gasoline (and $6 diesel) and the downstream effects* trigger two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth. Or is this a ham-fisted way to pull some of the Covid stimulus money and what some have called excess savings* back out of the economy (to cool off 9% inflation).

*prices on trucked goods, or anything involving oil, go up, thus consumers have less to spend on other things
**if any of you have 'excess' savings, send it on over

Since inflation is a world-wide issue caused by supply shocks (Covid and the Russian invasion of Ukraine) and is not limited to the US, I reject both of your premises and suggest you stop taking economic guidance from Scott fucking Adams.

Those are both real, and we have the noted additional compounding factors. We could help the world supply of energy (deinflationary move) by returning to US energy independence. But the stimulus dollars would still be in circulation.

Do you really live in North Dakota? Seriously, you should KNOW that we are an energy exporter, much thanks to your efforts to pollute your ground water. At the same time, being in an energy producing state, you should also KNOW that hydrocarbons are a world market, making it pretty impossible to isolate yourself from the world market.

How is it that you don't know that?

At the same time, you should also 100% support wind farms, since that's all local made energy, reducing the load on the HC market (including coal).

He would be all in on that if it wasn't for those pesky batteries. He doesn't know how they work.

We still are.

Also note that any calculation of import and export of petroleum and petroleum products (e.g., gasoline, diesel, jet fuel) also includes pharmaceuticals, because those are derived from petroleum products.

The article says petroleum is out of balance.

We could fix that* internally or we could go pound knuckles with a sheik that had a reporter butchered (and have the sheik tell us to pound something else he has abundance of). And the US fixing itself to steady net exporter we'd help the Euro allies by stabilizing global markets and have them buy from (butcher) sheiks and not (butcher) Russians.

*restart ND and TX production; restarting Keystone XL

Wind is wonderful, but it's unreliable. We need large scale energy storage to make it reliable for baseline load.

Here in ND, where Handy can confirm the wind blows, Minnkota Power has 457MW (faceplate) of wind. That's perfect conditions generation rating. None of their three sites have been anywhere near that in 24 hours. You can't rely on wind right now.
