3/26 - Unending Knight or Straight to the Point?

Re: 3/26 - Unending Knight or Straight to the Point?

I said it before. This is NOT TRUE.

In fact there were more people at the first semifinal game than the second.

Not only that, but the announced attendance is the same for both games. After all, there is only one ticket for the night, thus it is impossible to differentiate the attendance between both games.

Someone messed up entering the information on the first semifinal game.

This. People who weren't there need to read this. This is truth.

I was there. You had a choice to buy individual game tickets or all three for a price that ended up being less than the 3 individual games, but more than two individual games. So, the attendance was based on ticket sales. Sure some of the Genny fans left after their semi. There was very little reason to stay. But a few stayed and more returned for the final. Also, some of the Point fans stayed behind as well. I would even say that more in the community of Lake Placid were at the second semi than the first. I went to both and didn't see a noticeable difference in crowd size, but there did appear to be slightly more for the second game.

Interesting statistic...since 2002, the team that won the first semi-final has gone on to win 10 of the 14 National Championship games. If there was no advantage to playing at 4:00 verses playing at 7:30 you might expect that number to be closer to 50%. I guess that is one reason that D-1 has an off-day in between the semi's and the final.

Another interesting note from the three games in Lake Placid this year...a total of 27 goals were scored in the 3 games. Of those 27, only 5 were scored on the north end goal. That's 82% of the goals scored at one end of the ice. I have no idea why, but that just seemed skewed a bit.

Were you and I attending the same games? There were FAR more people at the first game. MAYBE the crowds were comparable in the 3rd period of the 2nd game when some of the CanAm teams filtered in because their event was done for the day. Maybe.

And are you saying they were selling individual-game tickets for the first day? As in, separate tickets for the 2 semifinals? Because their advance sales (online and by phone) had two options: $22/day, or $35 for both days. I know this because I bought tickets and those were my options... So, if what you're telling me is true and they decided to sell individual-game tickets the day of the game, then I have ZERO clue how they would expect to have even close to a reliable count of paid attendance. But in any case, in terms of butts in the seats, I stand by my observation that more people attended the first game, by a decent margin.

As do I.

I'm out of town right now, but when I get back, i will look up the official game sheets they handed out and see what they list for the attendance for those two semifinal games. I'm pretty sure it's the same number.
