2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

Oh, they can't all be from the south...I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of them was Kennedy.

Who said they were? ;)

Plenty of old money NE Democrats have the same problem, they just prefer to keep it behind or under the desk, with the office door locked. The interns magically get their rent paid each month from a secret bank account with a separate balance sheet, and no one gets hurt. It's probably the oldest wink-wink-nudge-nudge joke in Washington at this point.

Seeing the Tories lose their collective minds over the suit POTUS is wearing is comical.

There is nothing he can do that won't be criticized.

The Echo Chamber has a simple flowchart for Obama. If he engages the situation negatively then they say he's dictatorial (dog whistle: "they're scary"), if he engages it positively they say he's grandstanding (dog whistle: "they're uppity"), and if he leaves it alone they say he's disengaged (dog whistle: "they're lazy")

This is pretty interesting, not so much for the results as the discussion of methodology.

On that same note, I used to lend my teachers my Swiss Army knife from time to time and nobody thought a thing of it.

You'd be auto-suspended for a week now if you did that. And if the teacher didn't report you, that would probably be grounds for an instant termination if another student were to report it to administration.

I know that. I'm just saying, there's been a complete overreaction on the part of so many with regards to so many things that were of no consequence back in the day.

I think this is a matter of regional difference. Where I grew up, the sole purpose of any kid bringing any sort of knife to school was as a weapon. Where I live now, I'll bet 2/3rds of the kids know how to skin a deer.

Also, it's not PC-ness that's driving these school districts to have a zero tolerance policy, it's liability.

I wore black almost every day in high school. I also wore a long black London Fog coat. I was introduced at my graduation as The Man in Black (not sure if the Headmaster was paying tribute to Johnny Cash or the Dread Pirate Roberts). Then two morons go and shoot up Columbine High School. Today I'd be sent for counseling.
