2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

I think part of it is the allure, the exotic look, and that some of the features they have stand out.

This reminds me of a great story a friend told me. She's not in any way ugly, but... well, she comes from that MA/CT/LI breeding stock that's not unfamiliar on a first-tier New England, Upstate NY, or NYC campus. Basically, she's Boston Girl. In regions of the country with better looks (which is to say, all of them) she is waiting until last call.

So, she goes on an exchange program for one year to Finland, where every girl looks like this and every guy looks like this. And... she's a hit! Apparently, if all you've seen every day of your life are Scandinavian super models, Fenway Woman is an exotic and attractive addition to your bestiary (right up until she opens her mouth -- that accent must be a turn off in any culture).

Cool. Now there is a legit reason to send all the illegal immigrants back to their homeland and comfort them with this fact.

I think the saddest thing I have ever seen is the folks down at the border turning back the busses with the kids on them while waving the American Flag.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"*

One of the greatest things about these words, which sum up more than any other why America was once the hope of the world, rather than just an opportunity for greedy assholes to improve their market share while mewling about the "productive classes" and the alienable rights of corporate personhood, is they can be sung with equal beauty.

They might as well have been our fucking national anthem, once.

"It's more than true / It actually happened."

The national anthem today, is, of course, this.

The American Dream requires you to have kids? What a bigoted system. :p

I can't wait until the Millennials hit 30-35 and the birth rate goes through the floor a la Japan.

*remembers people I went to high school with, as well as the plot of the movie Idiocracy* ...actually, that might not be an issue. Welcome to Costco, I love you.

Didn't you used to claim that 1/3 of the girls of your graduating class in Sagnasty were pregnant?

Our high school had such a terrible pregnancy problem they actually opened up a daycare just for children of high school girls so they could graduate. There was a waiting list. A long, long waiting list. Our nickname was The Pregnant Panthers.

I heard rumors of an eighth grader who was pregnant with her SECOND.

Given the timeframes involved I didn't think that was even biologically possible.

Apparently the documented record is 11, though there are claimants as low as 5 on the books (which are probably cover stories for even worse atrocities).

If you can give birth at 11, then if you timed it well and had an undemanding local school district, you could be ringing up #4 by eighth grade.

I've been there - it's not that disparate. You can't judge by the average jersey chaser they show in the stands. Everyone knows there are hot women at sporting events and ESPN isn't in the habit of showing ugos.

Except at Capitals hockey games. Most of the female red jersey wearing crowd are run lukewarm at best on the hottie scale.

Indeed.

And that's also why this happens.

Todd Akin is BACK!!!!!!!!!!!

Defends comments on rape

Akin offers no apologies for his “legitimate rape” comment and blames liberal news media for how it was received. The liberal opposition research super PAC American Bridge dug up the video and sent it to Talking Points Memo, described as one of the “well-funded, left-leaning blogs.” Talking Points Memo posted the footage and started a firestorm.

Akin systematically defends every phrase in his response to whether abortion in the case of rape should be legal. “Taking my comments in order: When a woman claims to have been raped, the police determine if the evidence supports the legal definition of ‘rape.’ Is it a legitimate claim of rape or an excuse to avoid an unwanted pregnancy?”

(From the POLITICO archives: Akin: 'Legitimate rape' victims rarely get pregnant)

“My comment about a woman’s body shutting the pregnancy down was directed to the impact of stress on fertilization. This is something fertility doctors debate and discuss. Doubt me? Google ‘stress and infertility,’ and you will find a library of research on the subject.”

Hey, the dude sums up mainstream conservative thought. Now I understand some USCHO righties will get offended by that since they don't share his views, but for the most part social conservatives do. Hand out some truth syrum and ask all cons if they think rape victims should be forced by the govt to have their attacker's kid and I'm guessing the majority say "yes".

We don't see it so much here in the Northeast where conservatives are more like Bill Weld / Romney before he moved to the right to run for president / Scott Brown / Olympia Snowe etc etc...

But I think you are correct that in the southern social conservative circles, this is pretty much mainstream thought.
