2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

Kind of. There was a brief period when you could get that type of education at an American university (say, 1890-1950), but before and since it's been the path of the autodidact. And my god it's cheap, and now with Kindles you don't even throw your back out. The Five Foot Shelf fits on one device and if you hunt around you can probably buy its entire contents for under $25. We can all be Federico da Montefeltro now.
That's pretty funny.

Last fall I was in Des Moines at the Planned Parenthood fall book sale at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Killing time, waiting for my friends, I wandered through a tiny corner of the building where, buried among shelves of Encyclopedia Britannica was a set of the Harvard classics. They were selling them for exactly $25, which at $.50/book was actually a little higher than what is the average price of books down there.

Here it is. The Boner Jobs Plan for when they take over the Gubbermint.

WASHINGTON — Anticipating a takeover of Congress, Republicans have assembled an economic agenda that reflects their small-government, antiregulation philosophy, but also suggests internal divisions that could hinder a united front against President Obama — much as happened in the 1990s, when a Republican-led Congress confronted President Bill Clinton.

The proposals would mainly benefit energy industries, reduce taxes and regulations for businesses generally, and continue the attack on the Affordable Care Act. It is a mix that leaves many economists, including several conservatives, underwhelmed.

“Some of those things will help,” Matthew J. Slaughter, an economics professor at Dartmouth College, said after reviewing nearly four dozen measures that House Republicans have labeled “jobs bills.” He cited some business tax cuts, for example, even as he cautioned about the cost of such actions.

“But,” added Mr. Slaughter, who served on President George W. Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers, “it just struck me as sort of a compendium of modest expectations. If you ask me, ‘What’s your ballpark guess for how many jobs are going to be created?,’ it’s just not many.”

My excitement can't be contained.

It's ironic, since Obama gives them cover to just go crazy and then blame him. "Eliminate the personal income tax entirely!" That would buy a lot of votes, and there'd be no consequence since Obama would veto it and then they could run ads in 2016 saying "The DEMONcrats voted to raise your taxes by 30%!!!!"

30%? I'd claim it was a 100% raise! (or maybe an infinite %, if I were feeling particularly cheeky) ;)

I actually thought of making the same joke, but I couldn't figure out how to word it. Divide by zero error.

This is actually... not that crazy. :)

Other than the obvious, some observations:

1. Oh, Grey Lady...
2. Way, way too many people trust CNN.
3. Way, way too many people on both sides don't understand that TDS is a comedy show.
4. WTH is "TheBlaze"?

The Blaze is Glen Beck's website/network that he established after leaving FNC.

Another thing that is kind of funny.

If you look at the column that shows the % of Americans who get their news from a source, and then compare it to the % of Americans who trust that source, for the most part a greater number of Americans trust the source than get their news from it. Basically, I don't usually get my news from there, but I still trust them.

Except for Yahoo!!! What the heck is going on there. 24% of Americans get their news from Yahoo, but only 20% actually trust them???

Even Rush says he is an entertainer, so why is he even mentioned when talking about "news"

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

The first words out of Wesley's mouth when he came back from mostly dead in Miracle Max's office.

To blave.
What was that? What did he just say?
To blave! And as we all know, to blave means to lie.
Liar! Liiiiiiiiiiiiiarrrrrrrrrrrrrr! He said true love and you know it!

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

I guess I don't entirely blame them. I mean, Spain, Greece, and a number of other countries have absolutely fked the rest of the EU. They've stopped even trying.

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

The EU and UK are probably better off being entirely separate. The UK is always causing political problems, and the EU has cultural and economic preferences that don't make any sense for the UK.

Agreed. It sounds like this relationship is at a tipping point.
