This thread is like watching CNN. Its an exercise in false equivalency. Look, like it or not, the extremists on the right have taken over the party, where the extremists on the left have not. Not that they're not present for the Dems. They're just not driving the bus. Nobody is running a credible primary challenge to the left of Hardball Harry Reid or Chuck Schumer. Lizzy Warren isn't engineering a shutdown of the govt and a possible default in order to get Glass-Steagall reinstated.

So, while I'm happy to watch the current incarnation of the GOP implode, I do so because its good for the country. Barry Goldwater, etc would have long since been run out of the party had they held office today. As would Bob Dole, as was Dick Lugar. People like Opie want to say this movement is harmless. Tell that to the proud traditional conservatives who have been run out of office because they wouldn't dance to the tune of the lunatic fringe. The wing of the party fueled by the bile of right wing media needs to be crushed, and its ultimately conservative voters who have to do it in the primaries.

Otherwise, people spouting out the "both sides do it" mantra sound like those brainless pundits on CNN. Really, who aspires to sound like Wolf Blitzer and John King? :eek:

For the Republican party, no, I would say that Fox News is nowhere near the most important political media machine. They get about 3-4 million viewers a night, while Rush Limbaugh used to get close to 20 million listeners daily in the late 90's. I don't know what his numbers are today, but even if they've fallen to half of what they were, he's still capturing a larger audience than Fox.

People are only extremists when I disagree with them. I never hold an extreme view, that's only a thing for those with whom I disagree.


It's a mantra, and too many people buy into it.

Yes you can. For starters, you can look at the only Socialist in Congress - Bernie Sanders from Vermont. Except he's not even the most liberal in the Senate (Gillibrand-NY, Merkley-OR). According to the National Journal, Nancy Pelosi is the 79th most liberal member of Congress. Eric Cantor is the 73rd most conservative.

Flaggy epitomizes the problem conservative Republicans have with appealing to the general electorate. They operate in a right wing bubble where John Boner is considered a liberal and Nancy Pelosi wants to nationalize all private industry. Then they watch in stunned silence as the O cruises to re-election, because their favorite talk radio host told them Romney was a lock. :D

At some point, sometime, someone on the right has to figure out that basing your entire party platform to appease a narcissistic, bitter generation of people who are shrinking in numbers and influence year after year is not a winning strategy. Until that day, the rest of us will sit back and watch the show I guess. Can't wait for the next Presidential election, as Ted Cruz and Rand Paul try to out loony each other for 6 months.

I'll put these questions here for lack of a better place...

You have armed guards in your school. There is an active shooter on campus. The shooter is a kid. Do you draw your weapon and shoot to kill? Or, do you try to reason with the kid?

Would your answer be different if the shooter was an adult?

Shoot to kill. Sorry, even if the kid is 15, I would not ask the cops to put their lives and the lives of the students in danger while they try to reason with them. Same thing with an adult.

If it is an "active" shooter, shoot to kill. I don't care if they are 5 years old. You can't reason with someone that is actively shooting at students/teachers.
