2nd Term Part IX - How Lame is my Duck

Oregon went to all mail in voting something like 15 years ago, and it's been an outstanding success, despite OR leading the league in ridiculous number of ballot measures (about a dozen every election). The day the country as a whole does that we will be much stronger for it.
At home voting seems like a good thing when there are lots of ballot measures - I always prefer open book tests!

The best thing about the OR ballot measures is there is a short blurb that the pro and con sides are allowed to write stating their respective positions. It is usually pretty obvious from reading these which side is lying. ;)

My favorite perennial OR ballot measure is trying to overturn the prohibition on pumping your own gas. It may have finally passed by now, but for years the sheer inventiveness of the "con" side was hilarious. Other favorites: allowing children under 12 to ride in flatbeds on state highways, allowing 18 year olds to serve in the state leg, and my personal favorite -- voters must approve any tax increase with a statewide referendum, but the leg can enact any tax cut by simple majority.

90% of ballot measures are defeated, the other 10% come down to a 50/50 split between the eco-terrorists and the herpa-derps.

I thought they were the ones who are too lazy to work, suck at the gov't teat full time, and spend most of election day standing around the polling places waving clubs? Isn't it only Republicans who work for a living?

True. It's also only Republicans who have ever died for their country, worshiped god correctly, protected womanhood and apple pie, and (sniff) love the flag.

Because poor people who work multiple jobs (1) are the people who most don't have the time to vote, and (2) vote overwhelmingly Democratic. They would be the people who would be helped the most by having a national holiday.

Bad premise. (caution: clunky sentence agead). The jobs that employ people who need to work multiple jobs are far, far more likely to not give vacation for a national holiday. How many Micky Ds are open on Christmas? More than you think.

That's not a bad premise, it's an elaboration on the premise.

The people who work the hardest make the least. Compare janitors to bankers (which is a particularly appalling example since it's also a case where social utility is inversely proportional to salary). The usual GOP slander about "work harder, people on welfare are depending on you" would be funny if it weren't so despicable.

That's also a load of ****. Absolute bullsh it.

I work my ****ing *** off and have put in hundred-hour weeks. I make a **** good salary but don't you dare say I don't work for it. What a load of liberal garbage.

And yet every janitor that's not just in it for a 20-hour week paycheck would take your job in a heartbeat. ;)

Plus my guess is Kepler didn't have an engineer in mind when he made the comment. Not even peripherally.

FYI Kep the "pump your own gas rule" was still in effect when I lived in Seattle last year from what I was told.

LOL.

20 years from now you won't get so angry about stuff like this. Fact is lots of people work hard. Congrats on your success but there's nothing unique about working hard.

Re: 2nd Term Part IX - How Lame is my Duck

Looks like they recently corrected it with a "404 not found". I guess that's better than the first correction.
