2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

Exactly. A government shutdown sounds worse than a "debt ceiling" to the uneducated.

Which is most people in the case of government finances.

Which is a big part of the reason politicians can run this country's finances into the ground and yet get reelected over and over again.

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

They did. They're using your Bobo Ryan's budget number. Which does not put back the money from the sequester. A major dem initiative. It drives me nuts that when Dems cave righties pretend they got nothing. Fact is they've gotten just about everything they've wanted and more and they're still crying.

I'm talking big picture.

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

I posted the story over in the Genuinely Nice Planet thread.

From Leo Shane's twitter: https://vine.co/v/hgmlV2gWvTL

And the story itself:
The shutdown of the federal government on Tuesday closed down memorials across the country, including many within Washington, DC. All of those on the National Mall were barred from the public when the shutdown became official. That wasn’t about to stop a group of World War II veterans who had traveled from Mississippi to see the memorial erected in their honor. Undaunted by the barriers set up by Park Police, the veterans and those accompanying them stormed the memorial, drawing the attention of journalists and politicians alike.

According to Stars and Stripes reporter Leo Shane, who took many of the pictures at the scene, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) distracted U.S. Park Police while the barriers were being moved to allow the veterans access. Veterans from Iowa soon followed those from Mississippi, with no signs that the Park Police meant to evict any of them anytime soon.

This should lead the national newscasts, not the politicians. I can't think of a group that deserves recognition more. On a day that the government shuts down we need to be reminded of real heroes and what they have sacrificed for the sake of this nation. We don't need yet more talk from bloviating politicians.

That and basically unlimited campaign finance. I am convinced if someone were to spend enough money the American voters would elect a dog to congress.

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

So only the uneducated work for the government? I can agree with that.

No. Uneducated in terms of American people understanding the difference between a government shutdown and debt ceiling and how the two would effect the economy differently (magnitude).

Yet you want to lead the news with what is obviously grandstanding by a politician who participated in causing the memorial to be closed in the first place?

He may be a loon, but I don't think this is grandstanding.

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

Written in 1969.
Once the religious, the hunted and weary
Chasing the promise of freedom and hope
Came to this country to build a new vision
Far from the reaches of Kingdom and pope

Like good Christians some would burn the witches
Later some got slaves to gather riches

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands, to court the wild
But she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

And once the ties with the crown had been broken
Westward in saddle and wagon it went
And till the railroad linked ocean to ocean
Many the lives which had come to an end

While we bullied, stole and bought a homeland
We began the slaughter of the red man

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
But she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

The Blue and Grey they stomped it
They kicked it just like a dog
And when the war was over
They stuffed it just like a hog

And though the past has its share of injustice
Kind was the spirit in many a way
But its protectors and friends have been sleeping
Now it's a monster and will not obey

The spirit was freedom and justice
And its keepers seemed generous and kind
Its leaders were supposed to serve the country
But now they won't pay it no mind
Cause the people grew fat and got lazy
Now their vote is a meaningless joke
They babble about law and order
But it's all just an echo of what they've been told

Yeah, there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into the noose
And it just sits there watchin'

The cities have turned into jungles
And corruption is stranglin' the land
The police force is watching the people
And the people just can't understand
We don't know how to mind our own business
'Cause the whole world's got to be just like us
Now we are fighting a war over there
No matter who's the winner we can't pay the cost

'Cause there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into the noose
And it just sits there watchin'

America, where are you now
Don't you care about your sons and daughters
Don't you know we need you now
We can't fight alone against the monster

America, where are you now
Don't you care about your sons and daughters
Don't you know we need you now
We can't fight alone against the monster

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

So now the latest brilliant idea out of House knuckledraggers is the same plan put forth weeks ago by de facto House Speaker Ted Cruz, which is to fund the govt piecemeal one week at a time. As maybe Schumer put it, yes we'd be thrilled to fund the govt according to whatever agencies Ted Cruz likes. :D

What a bunch of @ ssclowns. Anybody who voted for these GOP losers needs to take a long shower. Its like Sesame Street over there, only if big bird was a chain smoker & a drunk (Boehner).

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

It's pretty amusing to see Paul Ryan sitting at that half-empty table.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBn_3fOwttE

I didn't like the legislation that was moving through Washington the last two years. I didn't like Cap and Trade, I didn't like Obamacare, I didn't like the Stimulus, but I didn't walk out.

*looks incredulous*

*audience applauds him*

We stayed and did our jobs. We voted, we tried to amend, we made the debates, we put the votes, and elections have consequences. They won, we lost, that's the way it works. So I just don't understand this, this lack of respect for the rule of law.

Some might say that the House Rs are "following the rules" by trying to do this through legislation. I say that's BS. This is a law that was passed through both houses of legislature, has the signature of the executive branch and was upheld by the Supreme Court. It's law. And the House's inability to unilaterally revoke that law is not cause to put a wrench in the government. But because we live in a world where we voluntarily are governed by two sets of petulant, ****ty children, this is where we are.

Paul Ryan was absolutely in the right in his comments about the 14 Wisconsin state senators who fled to Illinois to play chicken with Governor Walker back in 2011. A shame that he and his co-horts aren't being as reasonable right now.

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

I wondering if this was going to happen:

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/w...ng-big-business-leaders-take-sides-with-obama

Two key constituencies of the GOP take it in the shorts with constant shutdowns and debt defaults. 1) Defense. 2) Corporate America.

I'm curious how willing they'll be to fund a party that's screwing them. Especially if the more centrist Hillary Clinton is running against a Paul/Cruz type.
