Why don't they just secede with Texas?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Coloradans harbored a pretty deep hatred of all things Texas? Something about too many big hats buying up ski properties...

That's the mountain folks. These are the flatlanders that are talking secession. ;) They like the Front Range and mountain residents about as much as they like Texans and Californians.

Please. Your "I'm just asking questions" dodge contains enough disingenuity for everyone here.

This coming from an attorney? the irony is just too rich.

"Sorry, only we can cross-examine people. You are using our technique to find out whether people are just spouting knee-jerk reaction or actually have thought things through. It is intruding upon our sacred space."

I'm curious - do any of the liberals or Democratics on here take anything other than a positive and supportive view of the NSA's most recent covert activities? Any qualms?
Or let me ask it this way: Do you support Obama's moves to triple down on GW Bush domestic spying policies? ;)

I've only been checking in periodically... are there actually people here who are okay with everything we've learned about the NSA's domestic spying program?

I don't know about the NSA, but there are people here who are OK with the government forcing a medical institution to deny a transplant despite an ability to pay.

When did the government do that?

There are people here who are perfectly comfortable with real death panels provided that death panel consists of a Rethuglican judge.

No, but I fail to see how it would have been different under a Romney administration. Especially since Congress and the courts signed off on it.

This actually is a case of the entire gov't being bad. But that doesn't make everything else where there are distinctions meaningless.

Very true, all branches of government are to blame for this one. I saw a table for who voted for the relevant laws, extension, etc and was pretty upset with how red those votes were. My democrat congresswoman voted no on all of them and honestly that is the first time I have ever agreed with her on anything.

Seems I covered this 6 pages ago geezer!

I'm more of the mind that these things can and should be scaled back. The War on Terror needs to be declared over and a new phase can begin with new rules. Far from blasting the Bush administration, I think a good case can be made that in the aftermath of the worst terrorist attach in history some extraordinary surveillance measures needed to be taken. Now in hindsight the govt can determine first of all what works and what doesn't (torture, Gitmo), and what is too much of an intrusion on people's privacy. If Congress is too wimpy to do so right now I believe the Patriot Act needs reauthorization every so often. That would be the perfect time to define what can and can't be collected and stored. Obama has some good ideas in this regard (moving drones to military from CIA) and some not so good ones (Gitmo should have been closed long ago. It didn't take this long to try the freakin' Nazi's). I'm curious where he goes on the domestic spying front.
