Re: 2nd Term - Part 3 - Echo Chambers, Chorales, and Wingnuts, Oh My!

Hey I'm not on SS disability!

PS - Opie, I heard a rumor that you're so old your social security # is 000000002. Is that true? :D

Considering the first ever social security number issued was 001-01-0001, I doubt it.

Re: 2nd Term - Part 3 - Echo Chambers, Chorales, and Wingnuts, Oh My!

So, how about that party of family values and fiscal responsibility re-electing a guy that embezzled taxpayer money to visit his mistress in South America.

Sort of like the National Organization of Women defending someone guilty of sexual misconduct by abusing his position of authority with an intern, eh? so both sides care less about principles than opportunism. gee. Claude Raines and I are both "shocked."

Or how about calling someone racist because they did not fulfill a quota of a certain mixture of colors?

Re: 2nd Term - Part 3 - Echo Chambers, Chorales, and Wingnuts, Oh My!

I don't think we have been this polarized as a people since 1861.

just goes to show how young you are, i guess. The late 60's and early 70's were an extremely polarized time, much more so than now...."four dead in O-HI-O"; police clubbing peaceful demonstrators in Grant Park, as i recall a President was about to be impeached, NOT for the crime committed by his aides (evidence makes it pretty clear RMN had no advance knowledge), instead he was going to be impeached for the "cover up" *, cities burning after MLK was assassinated, RFK assassinated, young men coming home in body bags daily with far more severe casualty counts than we ever saw in Iraq, atrocities of US soldiers killing civilians, ... one could continue but that would probably be overkill by now.

* (hmm...isn't that the real problem about Benghazi? not that the ambassador died, but that the administration knowingly and deliberately lied about it afterward, despite having been informed immediately that it was an organized terror attack conducted by a known al Qaida affilite, but instead pretending it was a spontaneous reaction to a youtube video in a country so torn by war that they may not even have had working internet service?? it's not the attack on the Benghazi compound so much as the ridiculous story they concocted afterward that I think has people more upset.)

You're really digging deep if you're comparing a 3rd rate lobbying group with a national political party . Seriously, who is the N.A.W. and why does anyone care about it? Or did you mean N.O.W.?

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky." Which is technically true if you credit Clinton's definition of "sexual relations." By that definition, Monica was having sex, but he wasn't.

'68 was a very tough year. During the rioting following MLK's murder, Mayor Daley issued an order to "shoot to wound looters, and shoot to kill arsonists." It didn't go down well with the ACLU. His reasoning was that people live above those torched stores. And someone tossing a Molotov cocktail into a little bodega might as well be using a gun.

Any massive anti-war demonstration featured "protestors" carrying NVA and Vietcong flags. We even had one of our most popular movie stars get her nut on an NVA anti-aircraft gun.

"Indeed I did have a relationship with Miss Lewinsky that was not appropriate..."

Man, I really enjoyed that performance. That was followed by the cringe inducing photo op of the Clinton's, with their daughter walking between them (she has since grown up to be a top TV reporter, not) as they headed for Marine One and a little trip to Martha's Vineyard. Talk about exploiting your kid!

Yet another example of the Rover Theorem: Whatever occurred between Clarence Thomas and that loony slut is a BFD. Even though there were no allegations of sexual contact. Never mind the fact that she had a law degree from one of America's best law school and followed him from one posting to another. "It's a powerful man taking advantage of a female subordinate." But when a governor has sex with an entry level state employee then takes his act to DC to do the same thing with a WH intern, well, nobody's perfect. The N.O W couldn't even be bothered to answer the 'phone on that one.

Believe it or not, I was wondering the same thing. I've never heard of NAW, unless it's some new wrestling event...

You have to put it in context. He was at a press conference. When he said "that woman", he was pointing at Helen Thomas. So

"I did not have sex with Helen Thomas, Monica Lewinsky." Bad grammar, as it should have been, "Monica Lewinsky, I did not have sex with Helen Thomas."

Thankfully so.

Thanks for putting an indelible image in my head. Helen would make a freight train take a dirt road.
