26th Alaska Governor's Cup - Decade Sweep Edition

Re: 26th Alaska Governor's Cup - Decade Sweep Edition

Sucks but to be expected, they won one more game than we thought they would.

Re: 26th Alaska Governor's Cup - Decade Sweep Edition

Great response tonight after the stinker of a game Friday. Though it would have been nice to capitalize on more of our chances tonight. Props to the Seawolves on Friday that finished on some opportunities. Looking forward to a great series in anchorage in a few weeks.

Was that the game that UAA had won, but the Nanooks came back to score 3 goals in like 35 seconds? If I remember right, Matt Shasby took a really stupid penalty by throwing the puck out of their zone.

Yes. Took a timeout at 35 seconds and scored 2 goals by the 18 second mark. And then added an empty netter just before the buzzer.

Seawolves played a heck of a weekend. Nooks needed to play a full 60 minutes and UAA took full advantage of it when they started to slack.

It’s nice to have some good competitive games. See you all in March!

This UAA team really is better than their record indicates. There have been numerous games that they "should" have won. Trouble putting the puck in the net. I do see a lot of improvement though - better passing, moving their feet more, just more hustle and "will to win" than I have seen in quite some time.

Couldn't agree more. I've watched a few games, including their weekend in North Dakota, and the home games against Northern and Tech. There's definitely been a culture change.

They clearly outdated the Nooks on Friday and played really tight pressure and forechecked really aggressively. It was high risk and high reward but it paid off and they forced the Nooks to chase.

Saturday was a different story. I don't think UAA was flat, I think both teams skated hard. Nanooks certainly got the bulk of the opportunities, though. Stead played lights out all weekend. He probably wants Saturdays game winner from Leer back though.

The stage is certainly set for a good finale in a few weeks down in Anchorage.

Now it looks like the university is facing a cut of more than $155 million from last year's budget. Last year state funding for the university sat at approximately $327 million. The governor's amended budget funds the university at just over $193 million.

That was taken from the News Miner a moment ago.
I'm not a math major however I'm having difficulty making the numbers add up.
That said Draconian still comes to mind.

Your Governor just shot major holes in the April signing classes for both schools.

Not looking good … but this is just a PROPOSED budget … it has to be passed by the Legislature.

A Legislature that has both houses controlled by the Republicans.

A lot of those same republicans have said this budget proposal is dead on arrival. Especially considering the House has yet to organize. ****ing off everybody isn’t a recipe for getting re-elected if you’re a legislator.

Lots of people jumping to conclusions already without seeing all the facts, or really even understanding how the Alaska legislative process works (I’m looking at you, CHN). Personally I’d rather wait until the budget is actually decided, likely in a conference committee in May or June, and then prognosticate. Until then it’s all a bunch of nothing.

But yes, yesterday was a dark day for anybody with a functioning, logical brain in Babcockistan. And this is just year 1 of Dunleavy. Makes me glad I left when I did.

And one other thing...now would be an ideal time to start blowing up your legislators inbox and phone line.

Not sure how it's jumping to conclusions to be concerned. Even if what passes is 10% of what is proposed, it's hard to imagine sports surviving at both schools.

Concerned, yes. But not a lot of facts to go off of until we have an actual number signed off on by everybody, and that won’t happen for at least a couple months.

I don’t trust a Republican to run Animal Control let alone the Legislature. Not one of them will have the stones to stand up to the oil companies or enact the tax system we desperately need. Even then, there’s not gonna be enough votes to get around any vetoes by the Governor. They squeak out of few bucks here and there but this is definitely the future.

I tried to warn people that Dunce-leavy was a snake in the grass. All people cared about was getting their PFD money. And it really irritates me that Dunce-leavy ran on the fact that he was a former educator!!

Oh you weren’t the only one warning people, plenty of people did but too many got lured in by his dangling of PFD money (that we likely won’t get anyway).
