2026 Winter Olympics: Thread Title Under Construction

I thought it was a legit penalty, just that he should have been called for offsetting embellishment.

Even if the Finn caught Mackinnon high however slightly, the ref clearly didn't see the penalty and solely called the penalty based on the acting job that followed. That arm went up a good 4 Mississippis after any contact was made.

I did not realize that. Welp, very much like Murphy, smart play. There's a reason soccer players roll around like they have been shot.

FALL DOWN! ACT HURT! BE INDIGNANT!

Wouldn't be professional sports if we didn't have some of that going on. Heck, it wouldn't be Sports at all probably.
It astounds me that the IIHF and NHL would agree to this situation at all. Like I get NHL referees are likely better but holy fuck is it not worth the trouble.

And this situation would be unthinkable in any other sport. FIBA certainly wouldn’t do it for basketball. Heck, for soccer, at the World Cup it’s considered controversial if the referees are from the same continent as one of the teams.

They want Canada US final and they're going to try their best to get it.

I don't see my future home country losing.

On the other hand, I cannot believe Sam Bennett, on a line with two other rats, ran Saros. Oh wait, I can.

He's still in shock that Colin Campbell isn't able to punish Saros for being run over. If he sees the ice again, I hope someone rocks him into next month

Granted I was watching on a small screen, but that last goal seemed too close to be a confirmed. Definitely fine with it counting, but seemed like more of a stands decision.

That makes me incredibly sad, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I will never understand why anyone likes anything about that man. He is the most evil, vile, human being.
this is anecdotal, but I really don't know any elite athletes who are what I would refer to as intelligent.

I know they exist, just saying a lot of them are stupid

I know of two. First was a Vikings O-lineman, Jeff or Steve Irwin, who earned a law degree and passed the Bar exam while making the Pro-Bowl most seasons. Second was an NFL rookie who was drafted in the 2nd round. During the preseason, the CTE reports were released and he immediately quit to pursue his PhD in mathematics.

Myron Rolle comes to mind...

He was the guy who was a safety for Florida State and had to get a waiver from the NCAA so he could take a flight from his Rhodes Scholarship interview early in the day and make a game in Maryland later that night... Of course the NCAA got in a tizzy cause "benefits" or whatever, despite the guy interviewing to be, like, one of the Top 50 scholars in the entire country...

After a brief NFL foray, I believe he is now a neuro surgeon.

Pretty big difference in style, Slovaks seem deliberate looking to get set up in zone while US is going north south as fast as they can
