I can offer a little bit of a defense for the players regarding Kash being in the locker room:
It’s really not an uncommon situation for politicians to be in the locker room post game at international tournaments. It happens more often than you think, it’s not unusual for the ambassador of whatever country they’re playing in to be there at the World Championships for example. Even the Miracle team had VP Mondale in their locker room after the Finland game and President Carter on the phone. And it’s not out of the ordinary for said politician to share a toast and a drink. It’s certainly possible that most of the players thought “oh here’s the government rep like usual”.

Now, the difference here was that Mondale and the Ambassadors were there in an official capacity as delegation representatives while Kash was there as an invited guest of GM Bill Guerin.

It’s a bit specious but that’s why withholding judgment on the some of the players. We’ll get a better idea upon seeing who all shows up for Dump.

We don’t know that, we haven’t heard from any of the players. I’m more than willing to give shit to Guerin and Sullivan for allowing Kash in, but let’s pump the brakes a bit on some of the players.

In a just world, Sullivan, Guerin, and USA Hockey would be in deep shit for having an uncredentialed, unauthorized person in a credentialed area (as would the Italian security people).

I saw a campaign online to message the USA hockey comms lead.

I actually got to work with this person over the WJs and he was one of the most polite and kind people there, asking every volunteer where they were from and striking up conversations. I sent a polite note explaining the current feelings

This is all on Guerin, IMO. He and Patel are friends, apparently. Not sure how that happened, but whatever. Why just Patel? Why wasn't, say, Johnny Gaudreau's father allowed in? I've been seeing remarks about how they were all drunk. Uh, it was not too long after the game. How much did it take to get them hammered? Are they lightweights? Also - so many of their Instagram pics were with Patel. Why? Why not pics of them celebrating with each other? It's just so ridiculous.

ETA: I was hoping one of them would have said "You haven't invited them already???" when Trump said that. I know, I know. As if that would ever happen.

All excellent questions. Problem is they won. Guerin is not going to apologize for winning. Neither is any of the players. Winners get to act however they want to act now. That's the main take anyone can extract from Trump winning office.

Some people won't forget. I won't. But, ultimately it won't matter. I also know that.

Was just thinking this had to be the most disappointing Olympics for Sweden in some time. 7th is actually the worst their men's hockey team has ever finished. And the women couldn't make up for it and lost the bronze.
