He is from the same county as collins. worked in the woods, organized loggers. progressive. well known in Maine. Platners first replacement choice so the folks behind platners success should be willing to bring that to Troy. I'm guessing Collins will find something in the closet? I know I've heard one thing but not sure on the story.

This is what I've been saying. The Maine Dems aren't just a rubber stamp that does the DSCC or DNCs bidding. This is where Jerry Brown and Dennis Kucinich beat expectations and the party was able to extract concessions from the DNC for the National Convention. This was always going to be decided by the voters at caucus, not Chuck Schumer, Kristen Gillibrand and the DSCC.

I don't think the MDP realized the candidates would draw up slates of their supporters though. They envisioned 500 unpledged delegates showing up next Saturday, listening to the speeches and then spending the day voting. Instead the room will be full of Jackson supporters, they shouldn't even have speeches and the voting will be done on the first ballot. They should probably cancel the convention and just do it on Zoom. I feel for the people who will drive hundreds of miles to get there just to turn around and go home after a few minutes. They will be fired up to hear Troy but no one is going to want to hear from Bellows, Shah, Costello or anyone else.

I think Jackson was about as left as you could get. When he was running for governor he was endorsed by Bernie.

CNN is still advertising the debate Thursday night. It's would be an hour-long campaign rally where Susan Collins will be beaten up like a pinata. I wouldn't be surprised if CNN decided to air something else. I'm sure the Collins people will be working to that end between now and Thursday.

It kind of seems like the fix was in? All decided ahead of the convention?

It wasn't fixed. Troy just organized his supporters better than anyone else and got them to the caucuses. If it was fixed for a more moderate you would have seen a sudden rise by Dan Kleban (a business owner). Troy and Shenna were about as far left as you were going to get. Both had pluses and minuses with the general. Troy's big plus is that he's from Aroostook County and will draw some support in what is Susan Collins' home turf as well. The drawback is women voters may feel slighted with Platner and then Jackson instead of Shenna, but we've tried Chellie Pingree, Shenna and Sara Gideon in the past and all have come up short. The big thing is going to be how well he can separate himself from the scandals surrounding Platner while still convincing people he supports the same platform. That they both were endorsed by Bernie Sanders will help. Another huge benefit for him over Platner is that he has substantial legislative experience and will be able to hit the ground running in January without needing to get used to procedures.

I think both CD2 and the US Senate seat are tossups now. I believe the Pingrees have a lock on CD1 and the gubernatorial race. The legislature is always tight, even if one party gains a large majority, the vote margin in some seats is razor thin. The Democrats should retain control though.

This all assumes that we have meaningful elections, without Brownshirts interfering with the results...
