2025 Bracketology: The Road to Utica!

lol Someone tell d3 hockeynews to start a d3 30 for 30 in the offseason. "the four falls of geneseo" "requim for the NEHC" "the house of beaney" "Cardinal Excess" "bagels/tennis balls" the list is endless (bonus points for anyone who can tell me which actual 30 for 30 titles i based those off of)

Maybe this is unfair to say about a great program, but Geneseo is starting to feel like the Buffalo Bills of DIII hockey. Great program and great culture. Great coaching and very talented all stars. Often win the division and go deep in the playoffs. But just can’t get over the hump and win the big one. So frustrating.

Fair analogy. Schultzy is an unreal coach. They’ll get one someday. They are like the new St. Norbert before they won their first.

The life of a fan. No matter how successful, virtually every season ends with a disappointing loss ☹️

Hope springs eternal each November.

When you lose to this version of Elmira you are not actually good.

The official attendance for the first game was 1,600. Which is capacity. Okay.

The official attendance for the second semifinal game was 2,179. Oooookaaaaay. Even if you account for the suites which may not count towards the official ticket capacity, I don't think they can hold an additional 579 people...

Do you think that was a real 2179, or was it the old "tickets sold"?

It says 2589 for last night, it seemed four deep standing all around the rink and the few suites were packed with SRO three deep. That means 1,389 standing with 1200 seated, crazy environment, heavily Utica, but Hobart fans held their own

They were overflowing everywhere, including in the press area.

You hardly could have scripted it any better. The entire tournament was basically flawless, with nearly every game close until the final buzzer.

Last night's game highlighted the combination of skill and luck needed to win a championship, which makes Hobart's three peat all the more impressive.

When that Utica shot hit the post(16:14 OT) with such force , I knew that skill and will. wasn't enough for a three peat and luck needed to be part of it. The best one minute in hockey can be watched from 16:25 to 15:20 in OT, beginning with post shot , a Hobart quick response and ending with Beaver defending the goal without his stick.Insane action.

Words can't describe that minute of events.

The 2016 frozen four 8-7 double OT thriller between SNC and UMass-Boston would make a great 30 for 30 topic. I think I aged a few years during that game 😅.

UMass-Boston scored 3 unanswered in the first few minutes, followed by 7 unanswered by SNC in the second (plus the last second of the first), followed by 4 unanswered by UMass-Boston in the third to force OT.

I'd love to see them get over the hump too.

I have to think Geneseo and Utica are near the top of the list of programs without a Natty
