2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

Andrew Ross Sorkin: “I was talking to Richard Fisher, the former Dallas Fed president. He said, ‘this economy is an A+ economy.’ … We really are in a much better place than anybody had expected… This is as good as it could possibly get."

Obviously more bad news for Biden. Strong economies are always bad for incumbents.

Sarcasm aside I'd give my left nut for the democrats to be better at messaging. Biden's performance in the White House is worthy of a Johnson-esque, Nixon-esque or Reagan-esque landslide election. Then again, the average American voter is significantly dumber in 2024 than they used to be.

While the electoral college is an abomination and if Americans understood how to actually run a democracy we'd 5hit-can it tomorrow

If Americans understood how to actually run a democracy, we'd 5hit-can the Senate tomorrow.

It's a stupid, anti-democratic, 18th-century gimmick, like the 3/5ths compromise.

And we'd make gerrymandering and corporate campaign contributions punishable by death.

It has nothing to do with the Dems...not one news source quoted this story and the dude works for CNBC. (it took days for them to mention how he also talked to CEOs after the meeting with Trump who said Trump was out of his mind...and they all talked about that meting a lot!) Corporate media is legit ignoring any bit of good news so they can talk about how Trump had a rally that like 800 paid people showed up to and they ignore that none of them are minorities while talking about how Trump is making inroads with minorities. (though they never seem to cover how Trump can barely speak in full sentences anymore...even though there is legit video put out by his own people that show it) The Dems hold press conferences about this stuff and they are lucky if it gets covered for more than a 30 second soundbyte followed by some backhanded criticism. That is why they are running a lot of it on social media at this point you cannot trust legacy media to care. Best example, which I used before, was when Maryland re-opened the port after the tanker accident and there was a huge PC about it with Secretary Pete, the Senators from Maryland, the Mayor of Baltimore and the Governor which in normal times would have been on every news cast...it got like 30 seconds of coverage by the media because they would rather spend 59.5 minutes discussing the Trump trial. That isn't the Dems not knowing how to message, that is the people who are supposed to deliver the message not doing so.

Legacy media spends more time backtracking their coverage of Biden "Freezing" or "Wandering Away" than they do talking about what actually happened at the G7 Summit or any of the successes Biden has. Did you know that the World Bank basically said our economy is gold standard of the Western World? (paraphrased) If you weren't readying tweets or threads or whatever the hell a post on Bluesky is called you likely didn't know that because unless it is used to prove Trump wrong no one talks about it. Did you know every available crime statistic, often put out by the very police departments that are begging for more money to combat crime, shows that crimes is dropping at historic rates? Especially violent crime...in some of the worst reputed cities in the country? If you did it was because it was used only to impeach the stupidity of something the GOP said because the release of those numbers was often overshadowed. To tell you how ridiculous it is, I am pretty sure Faux News called out Murdoch for the doctored videos right around the same time major news outlets did. Only MSNBC (although not actual NBC) did it before that. My SOs parents (who watch CNN...both of whom are highly educated and spent decades as bankers and educators so they should know better) still believe the "Freezing" story that is how weak they have been about it. When Joe Scarborough is doing a better job of reporting the news than "legit" News Orgs we have a serious friggin problem.

Look, whether we all like it or not the vast majority of voters don't seek out info they want it spoonfed to them either through their phones or their TVs. That means there is always going to be gatekeepers to the information. If people aren't willing to be forthright enough to do the work themselves (which boggles my mind, we have access to literally anything if we put in 5 seconds of effort) then they are relying on those gatekeepers to have enough journalistic integrity to do the bare minimum to make sure they are informed. That just doesn't happen anymore. It doesn't matter how many times you send a letter if the post office refuses to deliver it. So either we get people to care, or we are going to deal with 2 competing realities.

I mean we are legit living out the "Emperor Has No Clothes" scenario and the media is doing it gleefully. I just saw an interview with the Mayor of Milwaukee talking about Trump and the upcoming RNC. Trump of course in his attempt to walk back his comments on Milwaukee (and the fact he won't be staying in Milwaukee for the Convention he is staying at the Trump Hotel in Chicago) by saying he loves it and he himself chose it. The Mayor, a Black Dem, said he worked with the RNC himself to get it there and Trump was not even involved. Then when asked if he thinks Trump is making any inroads with Blacks in Milwaukee he said none that he talks to are leaning Trumps way in any way. (and no he did just talk to ones at Dem events) This was done on CNN BTW...so easy for them to use said interview as a talking point going forward...what are the chances you think it will bethe next time they try and convince us that Trump is peeling off Black and other Minority voters?

Yeah, but some bleached blond 23-year-old on Fox said her groceries were expensive, so checkmate, *******!

These guys agree! Also, they hate gas prices...it costs way too much to fill their massive tanks to get their 15 miles to the gallon to drive town to town to see Trump!

But I bought this SUV when gas prices were real low; how was I supposed to know they might go up at some point in the future?!

  • Is that the attack where US soldiers sustained head injuries, and Dementia Donnie brushed them off as "just a little headache"?

Trump’s just trying to increase his pool of voters via traumatic brain damage. Perfectly legal.

"Trump admits collaborating with Iranian Supreme Leader and allowing over 100 US Troops to be wounded in Iraq because they showed “respect” by calling him first. He did not stop them or strike back."

At what point does this guy say something that makes enough people realize that any means necessary to prevent him from being the commander-in-chief is where they should be? I admit to being an early adopter when I arrived at that realization back around spring of 2016, but here we are 8 years later and I am still waiting for the world to catch up.

I think at this point there is a significant % of the population that is either too numb, too uninformed, too callous, too evil, too petty/vindictive and/or too anti-woke that they are never going to come to Jesus until MAGA is dead. We may never see a party the last of which we saw with Nixon or perhaps Eisenhauer, but once Trump is completely neutered I have to believe there will be a positive sea change at least on the right if not from some 'independents'.

As bad as Trump is, Reagan and his band of merry crooks single-handedly marred this country and the stink still lingers.

Listening to Woodstock on Spotify, even in 69 folks were on to Ronald Raygun.

So wait, there was an attack in the middle east that he knew was coming and he could have done stuff to prevent the Americans injured in it? I think we need 12 straight hours of Congress questioning him. Seriously, tell me how this is different than Benghazi.
